Canadian cyclist creates
GPS doodles(
涂鸦
)
Stephen Lund is a cyclist. He is also
a
n artist. But unlike most artists, he
doesn’t use a pen or
a brush to create
his works of art. All he uses is his bike and a
GPS app.
Before he gets down to create
a new place of artwork, he draws the courses on
street maps.
Following
these
courses,
he
rides
across
his
hometown
and
the
GPS
app
records
the
routes
he
takes. The GPS doodles are done.
Some of Lund’s GPS doodles include
simple maeeages like “Happy Birthday”, while
others
are more complex drawings of
animals, fictional characters and pop stars. So
far, he has doodle
Queen Victoria, a
giant anteater, a dinosaur and a giraffe. His
largest creation so far is a portrait of
a mermaid. It took him 11 hours of
recycling and he rode 220 kilometers to complete
it.
Lund started his extraordinary
project on
January 1, 2015, as a way to
wish people a “Happy
New Year.” But he
kept going after that first doodle, creating a
total of 85 works over the course
of
the year. All of them are posted on his website,
gpsdoodle, com.
The 50-year-old artist
wants to continue making one GPS doodle a week. He
hopes that one
day his doodles will be
published in a book.

Jenney: I was reading a science
magazine called Nature yesterday. It had some
interesting articles
about life 100
years from now. They talked of many kinds of
medical technologies which would
allow
people to live to be 110 years old.
Janet: Oh, I wouldn’t like that at all.
I am quiet satisfied to live for 70 or 80 years. I
don’t want to l
ive any longer than
that. I hate to get so old that I could not look
after myself. As long as I keep f

and healthy I am happy, but I don?t want to become

Jenney: Well, the magazine also talked
about other things that will happen in the future.
For exam
ple, most people will not
travel to work but will communicate online or
through video or telepho
ne. Most
industries will be operated by robots and
controlled by computers. Many people will spe
nd less time at work, but they will
spend time doing other things such as looking
after their parents.
Janet: That sounds awful as well. I
enjoy working and I want to continue to work
throughout my li
fe. I suppose this
magazine also talked about technology in the home.
Jenney: Yes, it did. It said it would
be possible in the future for everyone to have a
home computer
which would do everything
for you. For example, it would prepare your food,
play music and vid
eos and make
videophone calls for you. I would love that! It
seems quiet certain that wealthy peop
