Gaston, tall,
strong and handsome, is considered an ideal
marriage partner by

marriage proposal?
Because Gaston is a self-indulged
egotist, only thinking of himself. Although
just about every other unmarried young
woman in town is drooling over him, he
doesn't think they are good enough for
him. He thinks he deserves Belle because
she is the prettiest woman in town and
he is considered the most handsome man
who is the best at everything. But he
is rude and shallow. In his opinion, it's not
normal for a woman to read and have her
own ideas. He isn't concerned with
Belle's feelings in any way, and
doesn't understand Belle. Belle is dissatisfied
with the provincial life in the small
French town, wishing to live in a world like
her books, full of adventure and
romance. So Belle thinks Gaston is not for her.
②
What makes Belle change her attitude to
the Beast?
Although frightened by the
Beast's outburst of bad temper and his fierce
fa?
ade,
Belle begins to see
another side of him when the Beast fights off the
wolves to
save her, which displays his
heroism. Then, with the help of Belle and his
servants, the Beast starts to change
and act kinder. He wants to do things that
would make Belle happy and becomes
willing to put Belle's happiness above his
own. When Belle sees from the magic
mirror that her father is lost and sick in
the forest, the Beast, having fallen in
love with Belle, releases her to go to rescue
her father. Although he knows that he
may lose his chances to become human
again, his love for Belle overcomes
this. Gradually the Beast wins Belle over.
