To know the special ability
of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry
Day is held by the United
Nations on
March 21 each year.
The magic of poetry
lies in the connection built up through words
between the writer and the reader.
When
we read a poem, we often imagine what the poet was
thinking when they wrote it, or what they were
doing at the time. These thoughts let
us connect with the words better, as
if(
似乎
) we had written the
poem
ourselves.
But in the
age of artificial intelligence
(AI
人工智能
), would a poem still
mean as much if it weren’t
written by a
human at all? Today, computers can create all
kinds of texts, including research papers, books,
news stories and even poe
ms.
In 2013, Australian researcher Oscar
Schwartz and his friend created a website called
“bot or not”,
where readers can read
poems and guess whether they were written by a
human or a computer. During a
recent
speech at Ted
X Sydney, Schwartz said
that all over the years, some of the website’s
poems were
able to fool 65 percent of
human reader
s into thinking they were
written by a human.
By creating the
website, Schwartz hoped that people would doubt
the difference between humans and
machines
—
and be able to tell what makes us
human.
“The human mind is
not a cold, hard fact,” Schwartz said during his
speech. A computer may be able
to
create poems that are correct
in both
grammar and style, but it wouldn’t be able to get
the same meanings
and feelings across
as a human poet could.
26.
The purpose of the first three
paragraphs is to ________.
A. introduce
where World Poetry Day comes from
B. show how
popular poetry is around the world
C.
show the importance and beauty of poetry
D. give some tips on enjoying poetry
27.
According to
the article, computers can’t match humans in
creating poems because they
_______.
A. can’t show
feelings as well as humans
C.
fail to use the correct grammar and style
B.
can’t create poems that are meaningful
D. only know how to follow humans’
poems
28.
Which
of the following is true according to the passage?
A. World Poetry Day is held by the
United Nations every two years.
B. At present, computers
are able to create different kinds of texts.
C. The magic of poetry lies in the
ability of the writer.
4
D.
Some poems created by computers are incorrect in
style.

Grace
Cogan’s
favorite
quote
(
引用
)
comes
from
Thomas
Jefferson,
“I
cannot
live
without
books”.
The 14-year-old girl thinks the same
thing.
Grace was born with a disease
that influenced her skin and eyes, and caused
kidney (
肾
) problems.
Doctors told her parents she might not
live. Yet, she made it. However, she was often
sick. During these 14
years, she had 22
surgeries (
手术
) and a lot of
doctor’s appointments (
约见
).
It was reading that calmed her
in
doctors’ waiting rooms or during long drives to
appointments.
“I
always have a book with me,” she
said.
When
Grace
was
little,
her
mother,
Kelly,
read
Little
House
on
the
Prairie
to
her.
Her
dad,
Brian,
offered
her
more
difficult
historical
novels
like
The
Red
Badge of
Courage
.
Then
Grace,
despite
(
尽管
)
serious eye problems, started reading
on her own, with her nose usually buried in a
book.
“She wanted to know
how things worked. She was so curious,” said
Grace’s aunt.
Maybe because
of those early books, or maybe because of where
she lives
—
a
farmhouse that’s been
home to five
generations(
代
)
of
her father’s fam
ily
—
Grace came to love
history.
She asked her parents to take
her to many different historical places. She read
historical novels, from
Adventures
of
Huckleberry
Finn
to
1776
.
She
even
wrote
a
book,
The
Historical
House
,
to
explore
the
history of the farmhouse.
Because of her disease, Grace can’t go
to a public school. But her passion
(
热情
) for history meant she
came in fifth in the country for
the National History Day
Competition
this summer.
Grace’s grandmother
said
that
she
was
not
really
surprised
when Grace
called
to
tell
her
the
news.
“That girl does not give up. We knew
she would do something great,”
Apart from reading, Grace also plays
the piano and loves musical theater and
performing. She would
like to work in
theater someday. If she can’t, she
w
ants to be an writer, probably writing
about history.
29.
What is the article mainly about?
A. What Grace has learned from books.
B. How Grace developed an
interest in books.
C. How
her love for books has changed Grace’s
life.
D. What
efforts Grace has made to keep reading books.
A. She has visited many
historical places with her parents.
B. She is not interested in anything
else except reading.
C. She
has made her mother read books to her for the past
14 years.
D. She surprised
her grandmother with her prize in the National
History Day Competition.
A.
Emotional(
情感丰富的
) and
helpful.
C.
Curious and strong-minded.
B. Competitive and sociable
(
爱社交的
).
D.
Humorous and
independent(

).
