us

is

the

panorama

of

our

BUILDING

OF

CARVINGS.

Jiangsu has two ancient carved building, one is in Suzhou Dong Shan,

and the other is in our Tai Zhou Gaogang. Gaogang carved building is built

by a businessman called Yao, who was from the South to do timber business.

From site selection to construction, it lasted over 2 years. At last, it was

formally completed in Qing dynasty, Qianlong four years (1740). The Yao

Courtyard compound at the time of Gaogang can be said to be an excellent,

dominated and mighty building.

As the saying goes,

who

had

worn

with

ostentation

for

more

than

160

years,

due

to

mismanagement lead to family decline, in the early years of the Republic of

China, they sold it to Li Songru who engaged in shipping business.

After

Li

bought

Y

ao’s

courtyard,

he

spent

much

money

in

building

massive

construction

projects,

conducted

an

expansion

on

a

large

scale,

which is mow we're seeing. Since expansion up to now, it is nearly a century.

After

experiencing

the

Anti-Japanese

War,

war

of

liberation

and

the

abuse

and

destruction

of

the

Cultural

Revolution,

it

has

been

worn

out.

During the Cultural Revolution, due to it was set as the government offices,

so it can be able to complete preserved. In 2004, the government decided

to

rebuild

this

building;

it

will

be

able

to

basically

restore

the

original

appearance.

This is an old central room, one bright two dark; it used to be as place of

sacrifice to the family ancestors. below Beams of the House is a wooden

storied pavilion, this is our unique furnishings here, each family need to put

our

area

Gaogang,

we

Our whole scenic spot is divided into four small gardens. The East

West,

North

and

South

garden.

The

Center

of

it

is

BUILDING

OF

CARVINGS. We are now in North Park.

It’s worth looking at the boats parked in the gallery. It is a building on

the water of gardens, which modeled on the ship shape for fun drinking

together, ornamental water features use. There is a carved Lotus gate on

the fore; on both sides of the seat are beauty armchairs. At Night, sitting

in the bow, we can enjoy the boundless sky of stars and the hazy moon.

Close

to

the

water's

edge,

Carpenters

carved

the

boat

with

water

wave pattern, which like the water waves when the ship is moving. The bow

is the Dragon and Pearl. As the Master Li songru was primarily depended

the development of water transport to build up a family fortune, so he had

a

very

special

feeling

on

water

and

boats.

Therefore,

he

set

up

such

a

houseboat in his back garden. The boat is the same with the BUILDING OF

CARVINGS,

which

carve

patterns

on

woodwork

building

and

distinctive.

our

left

hand

side,

this

two- storey

building

is

our

BUILDING OF CARVINGS.

Standing

the

side,

we

can

clearly

distinguish

the

two

different

architectural styles in different period. First, please look at their roofs,

the east one is a bit of a radian, while the west one is merely two straight

As we can see, on the outer walls of the main building, there are a lot

The

building

is

square

which

composed of the 2-story main building and car building. Between the two

buildings of main building each with 5 rooms, the car building between the

left and right sides each with 3 rooms, the middle is the patio, surrounded

“the square building”

.

There is a boxtree in front of the building. It is a romantic tree, as we

all know, general boxtree only has a main trunk, but this tree is divided into

three from the bottom. It is said to be that those masters of the building

were all build up their family fortune in business. And they valued personal

loyalty

in the business field. In particular

The boxtree was also moved by boss Yao’s spirit, it

changed

to

three,

We are now

at the

lobby.

The

armchair and

the

square

table

in

the

lobby are a kind of precious mahogany furniture, the central scroll we hang

at the back of house was written by Zheng Banqiao, who was a famous poet

and painter in China. Why do we have his calligraphy and paintings here, it

has a history of stories.

Once,

Zheng

Banqiao

went

by

his

way

of

Gaogang

when

he

had

accepted a post in Shandong. In Gaogang ferry, he met our

building’s first

owner

—

the boss named Yao in wood business. It's getting late at that time,

boss Yao saw Zheng hovering in the quay, so he invited him to bestow, he

was also hosted a very warm banquet in honor of Zheng at that night. The

next day, when Zheng was leaving, he presented this piece of calligraphy

for our boss Yao to make a memorial.

On the left side of us, we can see a room which displayed some stage

photos,

be

a

base

for

and

television shows,

was filmed at our side on location.

After seeing them, then, please follow me to visit the essence of our

whole building--the patio. Bypass the lobby screen door, please looking up;

this is the most classical place in the BUILDING OF CARVINGS.

North Gate, in the centre of the courtyard in North Gate, there carves a

double-eave gate tower. On the gate, there is a bat with a string of copper

cash in

the

beak,

there

is

a kylin

carved

in the

lower right of the

gate,

besides, there are 4 bats outside the door, Can you see them? The 4 bats

are coming from nearby to the gate tower,

so, this constitutes a “

The five

blessings have descended in front of the house

”

auspicious scene. The bats

ancients looked forward to have. Please take a look at the left patterns,

there are a lot of deer in different shapes, the carving is very funny, some

of them are running or jumping, they are vivid. Let us count them carefully,
