Unit 9 Dinning At Home and
Eating Out
PartI Getting ready
People should eat a variety
of foods, avoid too much fat, too much sugar and
sodium.
They
should
drink
alcohol
in
moderation,
if
at
all,
and
not
smoke.
But
nowadays
people are too busy
to spend much time in the kitchen, so many prefer
fast food. Can
fast
food
offer
us
enough
nutrition?
What
are
some
of
the
advantages
and
disadvantages of fast
food?

Man: Yeah. I want a superburger, fries,
and a large coke.
Woman: Super, fries,
large coke. That'll be a dollar twenty-seven.
2. Man: Who's next?
Woman: I want an order of French fries
and a small coke.
Man: Anything else?
Woman: No, that's all.
Man:
How about a hamburger or an apple pie?
Woman: No, just French fries and a
small coke.
Man: OK. That's fifty-nine
cents.
3. Woman: Yes, sir.
What'll it be for you?
Man: Two
hamburgers and French fries.
Woman: Is
there anything else?
Man: No, that's
it.
Woman: Is this to go or to eat
here?
Man: We'll be eating here.
4. Man: Do you have any
ketchup?
Woman: It's on the service
counter.
Man: Where do you keep the
salt and pepper?
Woman: You'll find it
in the same place.
C
.
You
are going to hear a dialogue. Supply the missing
words.
A: How
about a cup of coffee?
B: No, thanks. I
don't drink coffee.
A:Why not?
B:I
am trying to cut down on my
caffeine
consumption.
A:
Caffeine
consumption?
I
can't
do
a
thing
until
I've
had
my
morning
cup
of
coffee.
B: Caffeine is just
the beginning. I used to drink coffee until I read
that it contains
393 chemicals,
including tannins,
caramelized sugar
and carbon dioxide.
A:
No way.
You're
pulling my leg.
B:
I'm dead
serious.
A: I think I'm
going to switch to
decaf.
B:Even decaf contains a small amount of
caffeine. A recent article in
USA Today
has
linked heavy coffee
drinking with heart trouble
. It said
that persons who drink
more than five
cups a day have an increased risk of
heart attac
k and death.
A: But I thought Americans love their
coffee and
cappuccino.
B:
We do. The USA drinks
more coffee than any
other
country and
Americans
love
their caffeine. But most people don't realize how
addictive
and dangerous it
can
be.
Caffeine
is
rapidly
absorbed
in
the
body
,
appearing
in
all
tissues
and
organs
within about five minutes
.
By the way, how many cups do you drink a day?
A:Okay, okay. I'm
swearing
off coffee
. So how about a Coke?
B:Are you kidding? Coke has twice as
much caffeine as coffee. Moreover, it's not
just
the
caffeine,
but
the
amount
of
sugar
that's
in
soft
drinks
.
All
that
sugar
and
caffeine can't be good for you.
A:You're
turning into a real
health fanatic
, you know.
B:I
just
want
to
take
care
of
myself.
Maybe
you
should
start
being
more
health-conscious
.
A:Then how about a walk in the park?
B:
I thought you'd never ask

does. Only I, I always put mine in a you know in a
litter bin, b ut er

of people don't, um but in the packaging there is
a lo t of paper
involved and
plastic and sometimes polystyrene*.
