introduction to the city.

Situated in the
east of the Sichuan Basin, commanding the upper
reach
of
the
Yangtze
and
Jialing
River,
Chongqing
is
the
largest
and
youngest
municipality
directly under the Central Government. It has a
population
of
32.8
million
and
covers
an
area
of
82400
square
kilometers,
approximately
as
big as Austria. It has a jurisdiction over
17districts and
23 counties.
Chongqing
is
one of
the
famous
historical
and
cultural
cities
in
China.
About 3000 years ago, the city was the
capital of Ba Kingdom and later
the Ba
Prefecture in Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). It was
named Yuzhou
in Sui Dynasty
(581AD-618AD), hence Yu for Chongqing for short up
to
now. It received its current name in
1189, after Prince Zhao Dun of the
Southern
Song
Dynasty
described
his
crowning
as
King
and
then
Emperor as a
“
double happy
celebration
”
. Hence, he used
“Chongqing”
to
mark the occasion.
Chongqing
itself
has
undergone
many
changes
over
the
centuries,
changes that have not been reflected in
Ci Qi Kou with the consequence
that
the
village
conveys
an
impression
of
what
Chongqing
would
have
been
like in the distant past. This fact has been
recognized by the State
Council and in
1998 Ci Qi Kou became a protected cultural
site.
So today
we
are
going
to
Ci
Qi
Kou
.
Ci
Qi
Kou
is
situated
on
the
bank
of
Jialing

River, not far from its confluence with
the mighty Yangtze, the ancient
village
of Ci Qi Kou formerly known as Longyin, covers an
area of some
1.2 square kilometers
(291.6 acres). And it is 1.4 kilometers to the
west
of Chongqing
Municipality.
The history of
Ci Qi Kou can date back to more than 1700 years
ago.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties
(1368-1911) it was famous for its
production of porcelain. To date, over
20 old kiln sites have been
discovered
there. It was because of the importance of the
porcelain
industry that the name has
been changed from Long Yin to Ci Qi Kou
which translated means Porcelain
Village.
However, the
village was also an important supply post for
shipping on
the river, a fact that
explains why there are so many shops lining the
twelve lanes paved with their large
flag stones that form the main routes.
Here you will find many outlets for
craftwork, groceries and the like as
well as a horologist, photography
supplies, drugstores and a tempting
supply of roasted nuts and seeds. As
one would expect there are also
many
teahouses and restaurants to cater for the many
visitors who
come to see something of a
way of life that has existed here for several
centuries. Surprisingly, there are more
than one hundred tea bars each
with
their own particular characteristics. Here friends
enjoy a chat or
meet to discuss
business. So the tea bars offer the opportunity
for you

to meet the locals and also
become acquainted with the unique folk
opera.
It is often said that
a visit to China is a cultural exploration. It is

The City of Hot spring

our itinerary, we are going to visit the Tongjing
Hot Spring
today.
It
is
quite
famous
and
comfortable
and
really
worth
a
visit!
Ok,
first let me introduce something about
CQ hot spring.
CQ has
a
rich
resource
of
hot
spring
with
a
history of
more
than
1600
years. According to the research
carried out by the Ministry of Land and
Resources, the available water for hot
spring is about 400,000 tones one
day,
while only one fifth of it is put into use daily.
So there is still a big
space
for
the
hot
spring
development.
In
1926,
as
theme
parks,
the

North Hot Spring and the South Hot
Spring were founded sequentially.
After
that CQ people began to enjoy the hot spring
travelling. After 1980s,
lots of
swimming pools and facilities were founded with
the investment
of our government. From
then on, hot springs came into prosperity, and
now it is much natural.
Tongjing
hot
spring
itself
is
a
Four-A
level
national
tourism
attraction
with
springs,
valleys,
caves
and
hills,
etc.
It
is
most
famous
for
its
hot
springs
and cold springs. And Chongqing is the first place
holding them
both
in
the
mainland
of
China.
The
temperature
of
the
hot
spring
is
between
35
and
53
centigrade
in
general.
The
highest
is
about
62
centigrade while the
lowest descends to around 18 centigrade. Most of
them
contain
varieties
of
minerals
and
microelement
beneficial
to
our
body.
Besides,
Tongjing
Hot
Spring
contains
more
than
100
swimming
pools for you including the pearl
spring, cold spring, hanging spring and
fish spring, etc. Therefore you can
decide which to enjoy depending on
your
own needs. As you all know, hot springs benefit
you not only with
the warmth but also
beautifying and nourishing your skin.
We will reach our
destination in 5 minutes. Before jumping into the
hot
water, there are some tips for you
to pay attention to.
First, check the
temperature with your hand or foot; do not jump
into it
directly. It is just like
swimming in summer, let

feel thirsty, get out of

Yangtze River. As the
longest river in
China

the Yangtze starts
from the Tuotuo River at the
Roof
of
the
World

Qinghai

Tibet
Plateau.
It
takes
in
countless
rivers
，
and flows eastward across the interior
of China. With an overall
length of
more than 6,300 kilometers
，
the Yangtze
，
next
only to the

Amazon and the Nile, is a
cradle that breeds the ancient civilization of
the Chinese
nation
．
The Yangtze Three Gorges consist of
Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge and Xiling
Gorge.
It
starts
from
Fengjie
and
ends
near
Yichang,
stretching
about
200 kilometers. The
three constituent parts of the gorges have their
own
characteristics.
Qutang Gorge is the
smallest and shortest, but the grandest one of the
three

The Yangtze
River

mighty and
rapid here is suddenly contained

Sushi of Song
Dynasty described the
spectacle
．
High
on the both banks

at a place
called Bellows
Gorge

there are a series of
crevices
．
This area is said

the

ancient
tribe

coffins
in the crevices. Some coffins contain bronze
swords

other artifacts. And those coffins are
believed to date back to as far as
the
Warring States Period

Wu Gorge extends 40 kilometers
along which the river snakes between

strange

shaped
mountain
peaks

reputation

a

nymphs
descended
to
earth
to
enjoy
themselves in the secular

Finding
how perilous Wushan

they
decided
to
stay
there

protect

ships
passing
by

themselves into 12 peaks.
The Goddess
Peak
，
the most
graceful of the 12

said to have
been
Yaoji
，
the youngest daughter
of the Queen Mother of the Western
Heaven,
stands out from the
other peaks on the northern bank to be the
first to greet the sunrise and the last
to bid farewell to it. Henceforth it
got another

distance

it
resembles the silhouette of a beautiful
young lady

Down from the zigzagging Wu
Gorge is Xiling Gorge, which stretches 78
kilometers
eastward
and

cliffs

both
sides

to

900
meters
．
The Xiling
Gorge is awesome because of its dangerous
rapids

shoals
，
reefs
，
sh
arp turns as well as billowy
whirlpools
．
The water at one
point
is
so
turbulent
that
it
seems
to
be
boiling
during
the
flood
season
．
On the
crag of its northern bank, there are two pieces of
brown
rock

which are named Bull's Liver and Horse'
Lung
，
whose shape they
take
．
Next to them
is the Lantern Shadow
Gorge
，
which has four
rocks
，
resembling Monk
Xuanzang and his three
disciples

Monkey, Piggy and
Sandy in the Chinese classic which
narrated an adventure of the four on
their way to India to obtain Buddhist
scriptures
．
Around the last
bend of
Xiling
Gorge
stretches
a
vast
plain
．
The
river
suddenly
becomes
wide
here
．

Travelers on the Yangtze
cruise may also visit many sites of historical and
scenic interest along the river banks,
including the ruins of Baidi Town
and
the Precious Stone Village.

construction

Sandouping

dam

construction

Fishing City

According to our itinerary,
we are going to visit The Fishing City
today.
Next, I will give you
a brief introduction of The Fishing City .
The Fishing City is located
in the Fishing Mountain, to the northeast of
Hechuan County. About the origin of the
names of this mountain and the
city is
from a legend. It was said that once there was a
huge flat stone on
the
top
of
the
mountain,
and
a
giant
god
was
living
there
and
always
fishing
in
the
Jialing
River.
He
saved
the
peasants
around
there
from
a
serious
famine
later.
Hence,
to
commemorate
the
god,
populations
around there named
the
mountain “Fishing Mountain”
; meanwhile,
the
city
got
the
name
the
“Fishing
City”.
In
1982,
the
Fishing
City
was
released as an attraction in the first
batch of National Key Scenic Spots by
the National State Council.
The whole
Fishing City is in the intersection of the mouth
of Jialing River,
Fu River and Qu
River. It is no wonder that the city is around
three rivers
and
set
the
dangerous
and
ancient
majesty
as
a
whole.
A
battle
once
took place here created a miracle and
rewrote the history of the world.
