[听力原文]
Text 1
W: Dad, you are learning English in an
evening
school, aren’t
you?
M: Yes, English is very important, you
know.
W:
Didn’t you ever
learn it when you were a college
student?
M: Yes. But I have found my
English is too limited since I began to work in
this company.
W:
Don’t you
think you are too old to learn it?
M: Oh,
no. I’m much younger
than Marx was when he
began to learn
Russian in his fifties.
Marx never
stopped learning foreign languages in his life.
W: So he knew many foreign languages,
didn’t he?
M:
Yes. He could read all the leading European
languages and write in three: German, French
and English. He was a man of great
talent for language.
Text 2
M:
Mrs.
Williams,
I’d
be
grateful
if
you
could
just
tell
me
a
bit
about
yourself.
Have
you
been swimming long?
W: No, not long at all. I started
originally to get fit again after my youngest
child was born.
And I
didn’t
take it seriously at first; I only
started
practicing properly when I
realized how much I
was enjoying it.
M: So when did you start taking it
seriously?
W: I suppose I started
taking it seriously about three years ago. I
joined the swimming club
then, which
really made me work at it.
M: And now,
how often do you practise?
W:
Every
day.
But
I
can’t
go
at
a
regular
time,
as
I
have
to
make
arrangements
for
the
children to be looked
after.
M: And what does your husband
think about it?
W:
Oh,
he
thinks
it’s
wonderful.
He’s
pleased
that
I’ve
got
something
more
interesting
to
think about than
housework,
and he’s proud of me for getting into
the
country team and winning
prizes.
M: And how many
prizes have you won?
W: Two so far. One
was an individual medal and the other was a team
cup.
M: Well, I hope there’ll be more
today. Thank you very
much, Mrs.
Williams.
Text 3
Complaining about faulty goods or bad
service is never easy. Most people dislike making
a
fuss. But if something you have
bought is faulty, you are not asking a favor to
get it put right. It is
the
shopkeeper’s responsibility to take the
complaint seriously and to replace or repair the
faulty
articles or put right poor
service, because he is the person with whom you
have entered into an
agreement. The
manufacturer may have a part to play but that
comes later.
Complaint should be made
to a responsible person. Go back to the shop where
you bought
the goods, taking with you
any receipt you may have. Ask to see the owner in
a large store. In a
