Admission Requirements
Applicants who have an unrelated
Bachelor
’
s degree in any
field are eligible for admission into
the full 2 year program if they have
experience working in a design related field. You
will need to
submit supporting material
that demonstrates aptitude for design studies,
this should include a
covering letter,
along with a CV and portfolio with images of any
design related work. Supporting
material
should
be
combined
as
a
single .pdf
document
and
uploaded
to
the
Apply
Online
website
as
part
of
your
online
application.

undertaken
by
the
applicant
including
a
critically reflective text.
A cover letter that explains your
interest in studying at UNSW Art & Design, and
your interest in
the degree. The letter
should tell us about your interests, achievements
and experience and be
no more than 400
words.
Verified evidence of
professional experience in a design or media-
related field, in the form of a
written
statement
of
service
from
an
employer,
client
or
commissioning
agent
verifying
the
position, role,
responsibilities, duration and/or project outcomes
of employment, service contract
or
other professional design engagement.
A
two page CV that details your experience in, or
related to design including contact details for
two referees.

Master of Urban Design
Admission requirement
Admission to the Master of
Urban Design requires an undergraduate degree in
architecture, landscape architecture,
urban planning or related field with a WAM of at
least 65 or completion of the
requirements of the embedded Graduate Certificate
with
a WAM of at least 65. You are
required to submit a digital portfolio as part of
your
online application, and records of
work and travel or study related to urban design
or a
related discipline to enable your
expertise to be assessed. If group or professional
work, it is important that you indicate
clearly your particular role in producing each
item of submitted work. Applicants'
portfolios should be uploaded with other
application materials via Sydney
Student. The portfolio file must be PDF format and
no larger than 10Mb

Folio
What should you include in your
folio?
Your folio should
include 10-15 pieces of work that have been
carefully selected to
showcase the
technical skills, visual sophistication and
current theoretical interests
of work
produced either during your undergraduate degree
or in a course of
independent study.
Supporting research activity such as drawings,
sketchbooks,
notebooks or journals that
demonstrate your developmental and working
processes
can be presented at your
interview. Your folio will be assessed on the
following
criteria, which also form the
agenda and expectations for study during the
honours
year:
Technique
The
selection of and capability with techniques and
materials appropriate to the
research
topic under investigation.
Ideas
Evidence of
an informed and reasoned approach to creative
practice: an awareness
of the scope of
the subject matter chosen for investigation; and
knowledge of
relevant precedents and
the current context for such practice.
Progress
Evidence
in the work to date of a sustained investigation
of the initial premise and
where
necessary the expansion or re-definition of the
parameters of the inquiry.
Resolution
The
ability to formally resolve ideas in a way
communicable to the assessors /
interviewers, as appropriate to the
line of inquiry undertaken and level of
completion reached.
Divergent thinking
The capacity for the candidate to
operate in a way that is original in relation to
the
precedents and parameters
identified for their practice, contributing to
current
debates concerning their
particular interest in the international field.

Folio: You must
supply evidence of your creativity in the form of
a folio that contains a variety of
your
personal work in art, design or media relevant to
the program/s you are applying for. The
folio should demonstrate your interests
and creative thinking as well as your conceptual,
design,
problem solving and technical
skills. You should include evidence of how ideas
were developed as
well as finished
works.
Examples of work to include in
your folio are drawings, paintings, graphic
designs, photographs,
digital
images,
models,
sculpture,
video,
scripting,
short
stories,
and/or
2D
and
3D
Flash
animation.
We recommend you explain each work to
help the Selection Officer understand the purpose
and
background of that work.
Folios should be submitted
electronically on a CD with files in PDF, JPEG,
SWF, DCR or QuickTime
format suitable
to be read on Mac OSX or later, unless otherwise
