Advertising
is
an
effective
way
to
popularize
products.
In
this
world
full
of
intense
competitions,
advertisements
increasingly
incorporate
into
our
daily
lives
taking different forms. Along with this phenomenon
comes a heated debate:
are
today’s
advertisements
more
honest
than
they
were
in
the
past?
From
my
perspective,
businessmen
nowadays
are
more
inclined
to
make
their
advertisements
exaggerated
in
order
to
take
an
upper
hand
in
commercial
competition.
There
are
two
examples
below
that
can
well
illustrate
my
viewpoint.

:食品领域,广告非常诱人,但实际上

The first example comes from the food
industry nowadays. It is not uncommon
that food companies choose to feature
their food in an exaggerating way with the
purpose of catching customers’
attention. Once I went by the door of a
restaurant,
a salesman handed me a
coupon that was a form of advertisement. This
coupon
presented
a
mouth
-
watering
burger
with
a
big
chunk
of
beef
and
many
fresh
vegetables. My empty
stomach compelled me to enter the restaurant and
order
that
burger.
However,
to
my
disappointment,
I
only
found
that
the
burger
was
much smaller than what was shown in the
coupon.

教育培训领域经常出现过分承诺的情况。

The
second example is related to the area of education
and training. Due to the
lack
of
effective
supervision
of
the
government,
the
market
of
education
and
training
in
China
has
always
been
messy.
In
order
to
expand
the
enrollment,
training
schools
are
competing
against
each
other
by
employing
exaggerating
advertisements.
For
instance,
a
cramming
school
promises
on
newspaper
that
after a certain number of courses, any
student’s performance in some exams will
be
greatly
improved.
The
way
I
see
it,
this
promise
cannot
be
trusted
because
education is a
process so complex that nobody is able to
guarantee how well a
student can do in
an exam.
让步段:当然,
不排除确实有诚实的商家,但是在这个竞争激烈的社会,夸张
的广告确实更容易出跳,赢
得消费者的关注,虽然这不是什么好的现象。
(承认

堵漏)
Admittedly, I am not saying that honest
advertisements without exaggeration do
not exist. Sticking to the truth is a
respectable practice. Unfortunately, the reality
tells another story.
Chances
are
that the
real
winners in the
brutal
commercial
competition are probably
dishonest businessmen, because their
advertisements
are
too
honest
to
stand
out
from
a
sea
of
well
-
designed
advertisements
which
more or less goes against the principle
of honesty. Therefore, businessmen have
no choice but to overstate their
products in order to catch consumers’ attention.

To
put it in a nutshell,
in today’s world,
advertisements
are
indeed
less honest
than they were in the past.
This phenomenon can be reflected in the field of
food
industry
and
in
the
area
of
education.
Although
this
phenomenon
is
hard
to
change, I
still call on all businessmen to call a spade a
spade, which is in the best
interests
of consumers and businessmen themselves.
