dangerous, perhaps even meek. But these circumstances are far from normal. He is disheveled, unshaven, and very drunk. A cigarette

smolders in his mouth. His eyes, flinty and hard, are riveted to the bungalow up the path.

and Bibles. The CONS in their cells greet them with TAUNTS, JEERS, and LAUGHTER. One by one, the new men are shown to their cells

and locked in with a CLANG OF STEEL.

. They head up the slope of a nearby hill and quickly

decide on a suitable spot. The guards haven't noticed.
