Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA)
The Container Terminal Altenwerder is
among the most modern container handling
facilities in the world.
Container
handling is almost entirely automated
–
driverless vehicles
transport the boxes between the
quay
and block storage areas. The terminal began
operations in 2002 as a joint project of Hamburger
Hafen- und Logistik AG (HHLA) and the
Hapag-Lloyd shipping lines. A total of 15
container gantry cranes
are available
at the four berths for large container ships.
HHLA Container Terminal
Burchardkai
Measured in both area and container
volumes, the Container Terminal Burchardkai is the
largest cargo
handling facility in the
Port of Hamburg. More than 5,000 ships per year
are loaded and discharged at ten
berths
with a total of 27 container gantries. The
capacity will nearly double when it is increased
to 5.2
million TEU in the coming years.
Among other things, modern Twin-Forty container
cranes will help reach
that goal. They
load or unload two 40-foot containers in a single
movement.
HHLA Container Terminal
Tollerort
The HHLA Container
Terminal Tollerort (CTT) provides four berths with
a total of eight container gantries
and
can handle post-Panamax size ships. The terminal
area will be expanded in the coming years and
two additional berths are to be built.
CTT has its own container rail station, which went
into operation in
2008. 720 metres of
track and three new Transtainer cranes make it
possible to handle block trains
quickly
without shunting.

is
centrally
located
in
the
Waltershofer
Port
with
direct connection to
the motorway A7. Six large-ship berths with 21
container cranes (of which
19 Post-
Panmax) and more than 140 Van Carriers ensure
rapid handling on 365 days and around
the clock.
With
a
handling
of
2.7
mill.
TEU
in
2008
the
EUROGATE
Container
Terminal
Hamburg
is
the
second largest terminal of the EUROGATE
Group in Germany.
The business
activities of the terminal are completed by
intermodal und cargomodal services.
To
manage the future challenges the terminal will be
expanded towards the Bubenday Ufer. This
will enlarge terminal capacity up to
six million TEU p.a.
Completion of the
work is scheduled for 2015/2019.

capacity cargo-handling elevators in Germany.
One reason is that it has a pneumatic
conveyor with a capacity of 1200 tons per hour.
Ships up to 280
metres long and with a
payload of up to 90,000 metric tons can be
discharged around the clock, if
necessary.
