Eat like a king in the morning, a
prince at noon, and a peasant at night. This
saying is
all about the
importanc
e of breakfast. And now
scientists can tell us just why it’s so
important. According to a study carried
out at Imperial College London, UK, skipping the
first meal of the day not only means
you eat more at lunch, but also that your brain
wants
to find more unhealthy
foods.
The study suggests that there is a
special part of our brain called the
orbit frontal
cortex
(
眶额皮层
),
which
plays an important part in making choices about
what we eat.
It is used for identifying
the taste of food, especially when skipping
breakfast. It is more
likely to target
high-calorie foods when
you
’
re on an empty stomach.

London, scanned

Making Peace with Your Parents
As a teen, you’re going through big
changes physically and mentally. Your interests
are expanding.

Here is the
challenge
:
Kids need to
explore the world in new ways, and parents need
to protect them from the dangers all
out in that world. These
conflicts
(冲突)
can
easily
set off fireworks in otherwise
calm houses. Sometimes conflicts
can
’
t be avoided. But by
paying attention to the building blocks
of successful relationships, you can work towards
making home a happy and healthy place
for you and your parents.
For instance,
try to find a time to talk when your parents all
not angry, tired,
distracted, or
hungry. A good time to talk is when you’re all
relaxed. Timin
g is everything.
