compete
、
contest
和
match
?
Compete
Only two men are competing for the cup
。
The US and Iraqi armies were competing
for victory in the battle
。
Contest
There are three candidates entering the
contest for the presidency
contest
The father of the deceased billionaire
contests the will
。
Match
The boy matches his
strength with his brother
。
Match
For
food no country can match China
。
p>
Contest
和
match
a beauty
contest
、
a speech
contest
,但
a basketball
match
。
Agree
to
与
Agree
with
的分别
按
agree with
/p>
(1) I agree with the proposal(
)
。
(2) I agree with his analysis of the si
tuation(
)
。
(3) I agree with every
word you’ve just said(
)
。
agree
to
(1) As I had no choice, I had to agree
to their very harsh terms(
)
。
(2) I agree to the proposal(
)
。
You
agree with somebody but agree to something
agree
with
agree
to
)
。
Hugh
Walpole
)
They
might not agree with his opinions
Oscar
Wilde
)
I don't
agree with a single word that you have said
agree with
something
earnest
< br>、
serious
和
solem
n
Earnest<
/p>
即
serious
或
over- serious
He is an
earnest student of English.
I am
earnest
I am in
earnest
,与
I am serious
。
< br>
Earnest
/p>
showing
sincerity
He is earnest about giving
his son a good education.
Serious
即
dealing
with important issues
或
not
joking
I am serious about doing
it.
p>
但
serious
severe
This country is faced with
a serious crisis.
Solemn
则是
of a very
serious nature
,或
of a formal
nature
,或
sombre in
appearance
The organ played solemn
music.
He looked as solemn as a
judge.
Sick
和
ill
?
Sick
、
ill
都解作
,
ill
,
美国
人多说
sick
。
She
is/looks ill
或
she is/looks
sick
。
此外,
ill
a sick
child
an ill
child
,
除非
< br>ill
adverb
a
critically
ill
child
)
the sick
the
ill
He
devoted his life to helping the
sick
sick
leave
、
sick pay
,不用
ill
il
l
health
sick
health
。
sick
或
ill
sick
而不是
ill
sick
不可
ill
,例
如:<
/p>
The
pot plants are sick
。
Sick
和
ill
sick
可以
,
ill
seasick
、
carsick
、
airsick
。
She felt sick in the
car
。然则
I was sick
yesterday
I was ill
yesterday
iller
、
sicker
worse
He fell ill yesterday and
today he is worse
。

Real
、
genuine
Real
、
genuine
。
Genuine
(
1
)
It is made of genuine
leather
。
(
2
)
There is a genuine
painting by
Picasso
)
。
(
3
)
He had a genuine interest in child
welfare
。
Real
:
The Nanking massacre is
one of the real events is
history that some people would rather
forget
。不过,
real
real
leather
a real
painting
、
a real interest
等。
Genuine
物本身的真实;
real
real
p>
At last I was able to get
some
real
coffee
Enclosed
和
Attached
的分别
To attach
attach
Details
of my qualifications and experience are on the
attached sheet
a
ttach
enclosed
enclosed
和
attached
enclosed
,
例
如:
Enclosed are half a dozen
samples of the AH19004 combs you
requested
attached
。
Please find enclosed/attached our latest
catalogue for your referenc
e
Enclosed is
our latest
catalogue for
your reference
或
I enclose our
latest catalogue for your
reference
/p>
enclosed
或
attached<
/p>
herewith
,
因
herewith
是
w
ith this
letter
everyday
與
every
day
?
Everyday
/p>
This is a matter
of everyday occurrence.
every
day
She goes to school every
day.
every
和
day
single
< br>,例如﹕
She
comes to see us every single day.
Content
和
< br>contents
Content
、
contents<
/p>
content
s
content
< br>contents
content
,例如
﹕
(1) This beverage
has a low fat content
。
(2) The contents of the beverage
remain unclear
contents
A customs official
carefully
examined the
contents of the suitcase
。这个
contents
a
content
。
p>
content
还是
contents
p>
content
contents
(1) The content of the book is about
keeping fit
。
(2) The contents of the book are quite
interesting
。
p>
由于
contents
A table of contents/A
contents usually provides a
useful guide to what is said in a book
。
elder
brother
、
older brother
及
big
brother
?
Elder
brother
He is my elder brother.
older
brother
来代替
elder
brother
。
Older
brother
I have an older brother.
p>
。
Big
brother
George
Orwell
Big
Brother
document
和
documentation
1
.
p>
document
应该更
common
p>
一些,
documentation
在
p>
“
document
2
.
document
documentation
document
=
文件
documentation =
文献
3
.简
document
documentation
4
.可否把
归结为
“d
ocumentation
而非
问得好
Form(s)
document(s).
填
form
forms
documentation.
5
.
documentation
(
)
Documentation
consists
of
documents
which
provide
proof
or
evidence
of
something,
or
are
a
record of
something.
例:
Passengers must carry proper
documentation.
Document(
)
- A document is one or more official
pieces of paper with writing on them.
-
A
document
is
a
piece
of
text
or
graphics,
for
example
a
letter,
that
is
stored
as
a
file
on
a
computer and that you can access in
order to read it or change it.
例:
When you are
finished typing, remember to save your document.
She carefully filed all the documents.
6
“document”
7
.
documentation
,
资料等
.
而
document
Let,lend
p>
和
borrow
lend
somebody the office/ toilet/
telephone
等,
只可说
let
somebody use the office/toilet/telephone
。
例如:
Mr Chan is
kind enough to let us use
his office
for the meeting this Friday
lend
borrow
I
borrowed
a
book
from
the
library
your dictionary?
。
Little
与
small
Little
p>
great
。例如:
a handy little
calculator
a little girl
(
)
a little
house
