By

is
ringing.
I’m
already
late.
With
just
five
minutes
between the bells, I
can never get to class on time. I rush through the
door and my teacher sends
me to her
office where she yells at me because I’m late. By
the end of the first class, I’m almost
asleep because I have been sitting on
the same chair for 100 minutes and my teacher just
writes
notes on the board and doesn’t
explain
what anything is about.
Sometimes she reads the notes but
never
gives us anything interesting to do. It seems that
school is where we come to copy notes and
get lectured. Everyone is so noisy. By
the end of the day, I’m very tired.
—
Clara, 15
My first year in high school has been a
lot different from what I expected. I like the
excitement in
school. Since I started
high school, I have been busy all the time. I
choose to learn painting in my
spare
time because I only have three classes a day. I
also join the football team. I like the open
campus. I think it is a little boring
to stay at school every day and it is nice to take
part in activities.
I’m having a really
great time.

Michael, 14

Today, we use oil as if it is an
endless (
无尽的
) resource.
However, it is not. Oil takes millions of
years to form (begin to exist), and
Earth has a limited (
有限的
)
amount of it. We
’
ve already
used
a lot of
Earth
’
s known oil. That
means we have to find oil in new places.
Scientists are looking for
other
sources
of
oil.
They’ve
found
oil
kept
in
sand.
They’ve
also
found
rocks
that
hold
oil.
Unluckily, getting oil from sand or
rock is very expensive. However, finding enough
oil isn’t the
only
problem.
Getting
it
can
pollute
the
environment.
Oil
can
escape
from
the
tank
of
a
ship,
harming
wildlife. Burning oil puts harmful gases into the
air. Too many of these gases cause the
air
to
hold
more
heat
than
it
should.
That
causes
global
warming.
Global
warming
is
a
rise
in
Earth’s
temperature around the world.
So what should we do? We should use
less oil. Doing so will help Earth’s oil supplies
last longer.
People burn oil to make
electricity. So using less electricity is one way
to save oil. Turn off TVs
and computers
when you are not using them. Use low-energy light
bulbs. People also burn oil to
make
heat.
You
can
save
oil
by
putting
on
a
warm
sweater
and
turning
the
heat
down
a
bit.
Scientists are also looking for new
sources of energy. They are looking for ways to
turn corn and
other
plants
into
fuels
for
cars.
They
want
to
use
wind
and
sunlight
to
make
electricity.
Some
scientists even want to
use ocean waves to make power.
46. Why
can’t we use oil forever?
A.
It is difficult to find oil.
B. We have used a lot of it.
C. It is limited and needs a long time
to form.
D.
It is expensive to get oil.
47. What do
we know about getting oil from sand or rocks?
A. It is very cheap.
B. It is bad for wildlife.
C. Getting it is bad for the
environment.
D. It is difficult and
expensive to get oil from sand or rocks.
48. What does the underlined word
“That” in the first paragraph refer to?
A. More heat.
B. Harmful
gases.
C. The temperature.
D. The air.
49. How can we save oil
according to the passage?
a. Stop looking for other energy.
b. Use less
electricity.
c. Use less oil.
d. Turn the heat down.
A.
abc
B. abd
C. bcd
D. acd
50. We
can know from the passage that ____________.
A. we should not find oil anymore to
protect the environment
B. we should
not use TVs or computers in order to save oil
C. both getting oil and using oil do
harm to Earth
D. we can put on more
clothes to save electricity
C

the ruins of the last capital of
China
’
s Shang Dynasty (1600

and

of

Over
3,000 tombs, 2,200 pits, and 200 houses have been
dug out at Yinxu. The large number of
burial accessories found there shows
the high level of the Shang crafts industry.

site
includes
a
main
palace
and
an
ancient
tomb.
Besides,
there
are
a
number
of
large
buildings, at least 53 of which have
been dug out.
