Taiyuan,
also known as Bing State, whose ancient name was
Jinyang, is also called
“Dragon
City”.
Taiyuan
is
the
capital
of
Shanxi
Province.
It
lies
on
the
Fen
River,
surrounded by mountains on its three
sides. Taiyuan is a historical city with a history
of more than 2500 years and it is also
the political, economic and cultural center of
Shanxi Province. Taiyuan is a place of
military and cultural importance in Northern
China.
It
is
a
world-renowned
city
of
Jin
Merchants
and
one
of

most
important
energy and heavy
industry bases.

Introduction
Taiyuan, also known as

of Taiyuan is 6988 square kilometers.

census in 2010, Taiyuan had a total population of
4,201,591
inhabitants.

them,
3,982,479
are
permanent
residents
and
more
than
3.2
million
are
urban.
At
present,
the
population
of
registered
temporary
residents
is
755
thousand,
accounting
for
one
fifth
of
the
total
population.
After
inspecting, the number raises by
431,948.

made on April
15
th
, 1985 and it

first
city
emblem

The
pattern
of
the
emblem
consists
of
twin
towers,

that
Taiyuan
is
a

and
heavy
chemical
industry

highway. Taiyuan Wu Xu International Airport,
which is the alternate airport of the
domestic trunk airport and the capital

Airport, can take off and
land the airliner A380--the biggest airbus around
the world,
and it has opened more than
50 international and domestic air routes. Taiyuan
Railway
Station
is
the
maincenter
of
six
main
railway
line
including
Datong-North
Taiyuan
Railway,
Datong-South
Taiyuan

Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan

Beijing-Yuanping
Railway
and

on.
There
are
the
high-speed
railway
leading
to
Shijiazhuang,
Beijing,
Shenyang,
Zhengzhou
and
others,
Taiyuan
North
Railway
Station
--the
biggest
freight
transport
hub
and
Taiyuan
East
Railway
Station--the
greatest
goods
collecting
and
distributing
centers.
Besides,
Taiyuan
High-speed
Railway Station
will be the new-type railway stations with high
level when it finish
constructing, and
the passenger traffic will be up to 40 million.
The overall length of
the urban road in
Taiyuan is 1800 kilometers. At the same time, the
highway centering
on Taiyuan reaches
the whole province.
Geographical
Position
Taiyuan is centrally located
in Shanxi Province,north of Taiyuan Basin, the
center of
the Yellow River in North
China. It is surrounded by mountains from the
north, west,
and
east
three
sides.
The
center
and
south
part
of
Taiyuan
are
river
valley
ore, the terrain of the whole city is
like the shape of dustpan. Taiyuan is
at
the
junction
of
Datong-Taiyuan
Railway
and
Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan
Railway,
the
geography

which
are

and

shape of bat,with an East-West span of 144km and a
North-South span of 107km.
Fen River--the second branch of the
Yellow River, flow past the whole city, and about

River flows lie the Taihang Mountains to the east
and Luliang Mountain to the west.

climate

winter and no intense heat in summer.

Taiyuan
is
located
in
the
interior
of
the
continent,
faring
away
from

east
coast,
which
is
the
hinterland
of
the
Eurasian
continent
of
the
northwest.
In
the
climate
division of the country, it belongs to
the warm temperate continental monsoon climate.
The formation of the climate is mainly
affected by the three factors of solar radiation,
atmospheric
circulation,

geographical
environment.
Taiyuan
is
located
in
the
mid-latitude

northern
hemisphere

Shanxi
plateau

Song
maid
palace
in the Goddess Hall of Jin temple as lifelike,

grottoes
and
Sui

Tang
status in Tianlong
Mountain, the tripitaka of Ming dynasty in
Chongshan temple, the
statue of GuanYu

Taizong

“Baohan dynasty” the

Jin temple
Jin
temple
located
in
Taiyuan,
25
kilometers
southwest
of
water
source
under
the
hanging
urn hill. It was founded in the Northern Wei
dynasty, in honor of the second
son
of
King
Wu
of
ShuYu.
It
was
published
by
the
state
council
in
1961
as
the
national
key
cultural
re
lic?s
protection
unit.
Shuyu?s
fief
called
Tang
and
Zixie
changed
the
national
title
because
of
Jin
water
and
later
generations
use
it
as
the
temple?s name. The main source of water
outflow from here, running all the years and
the water temperature always keep 17
degree and clear. There was the preface to Jin
temple
inscription
written
by
Tang
Taizong
in
Baohan
dynasty.
In
the
temple
there
was
well-known
cypress,
ash,
cypress
to
the
left
of
the
Holly
Mother,
ash
in
the
GuanDi temple. The old vertical and
horizontal branches have a vibrant and lush. It
was called as “three masterpieces” in
Jin temple with the running NanLao Spring and
elegant maid of Song.
Tianlong Mountain Caves
Tianlong
Mountain
Caves
is
located
in
40
kilometers
southwest
of
Taiyuan
Tianlong
mountainside.
It
surrounded
by
rolling
hills
and
has
springs
ripple
in
hilltop?s dragon king stone cavern.
Rock caves distributed throughout east peak and
west peak of Tianlong mountain and
there are 8 caves in east peak, 13 caves in west
peak. Every cave has different
excavated age, which since the eastern Wei to the
Tang
dynasty
and
experienced
four
dynasties
which
involve
Wei,
Qi,
Sui
and
Tang.
The
Tang dynasty has the
maximum caves of 15 grottos. Stone carving has a
vivid posture,
succinct knife skill and
has rich texture. It was renamed Shengshou temple
in the song
dynasty but had destroyed
already. In front of the temple has an age-old
pine tree of
curled-up dragon, which is
verdant enough and shadow the sun.
Double pagoda of Yongzuo temple
It was located in the
south-
eastern suburb?s south of
Haozhuang village of Taiyuan
city
and
its
autonym
is
“Yongzuo
temple
Only
because
the
two
towering
and
magnificent pagoda are very remarkable
in the temple so it was known as the Twin
Towers Temple. The temple was built in
Wanli 36 years of Ming dynasty (1608). In
charge
of
the
pagoda?s
construction
was
a
high
ranking
monk,
named
Fudeng.
The
existing main buildings of the temple
are all the brick structure. The pagodas are both
eight-cornered
and
have
13
stages.
The
Pagoda
is
54.7
meters
tall
and
has
ladder
inside. People can ascend the top and
overlook through window, Taiyuan scenes are
within sight. When people in and out of
Taiyuan, the twin towers were first in sight
and became a symbol of Taiyuan. The
temple grounds also contain many peony trees,
one of which dates from the Ming
Dynasty.
Longshan Grottoes
It
was
located
in
20
kilometers
southwest
of
Taiyuan?s
Longshan
hilltop.
Grottoes
carved
in
the
early
Yuan
dynasty
and
a
holy
man
named
Song
Defang
in
charge of the construction of Longshan
Grottoes and Haotian Taoist Temple. Now the
temples were destroyed but the grottoes
were existed on 8 niches in all. Every grotto
has a different amount with a total of
more than 40, which mostly were well-preserved.
The
skill
of
carve
is
simple
and
the
statues
dressed
professionally.
It
has
a
very
different art style
with Buddhist grottoes.
Chunyang Palace
It was
located in the northwest corner of Taiyuan?s Wuyi
Square and also was
known
as
Luzu
Temple.
I
t?s
create
age
has
no
way
to
tested.
Zhu
Xinyang,
the
ethnarch of Jin re-profiling the palace
in Twenty-five years of Wan Li period of the
Ming dynasty (1597) with an
unprecedented scale. In the Jia Jing period of the
Qing
dynasty
(1796-1820),
the
tall
pavilions
of
backyard
increased
to
3
layers,
with
a
pleasant
scenery.
Dou Da Fu Ci
Temple
It was located in Shanglan
village, which is 20 kilometers northwest of
Taiyuan city
and be situated on the
left side of the Fen River Valley. Inside the
temple has ancient
verdant cypress.
Taiyuan once was the fief of Douchou, who was a
dafu of Jin. He
once had done
channelization and initiated water conservancy so
his later periods set
up
ancestral
temple
to
enshrine
and
worship
him.
All
previous
dynasties
have
the
inscriptional record. The exiting
mountain gate, offering kiosks and audience hall
are
all rebuilt in the Zhizheng period
of Ming dynasty (1343). It retained a style of
song
dynasty partially, with a pithy
and strict structure and was seldom seen in the
buildings
of Jin and Yuan dynasty.
Right by the temple, clear spring flood from the
foot of the
cliff
of
Lieshi
Mountain
with
a
low
temperature,
so
people
called
it
spring
Multi Happiness Temple
It is located 24 kilometers northwest
of Taiyuan ,on the top of Juewei Mountain. AS
one of the famous scenery of Taiyuan
city ,the mountains are steep there , pines and
cypresses everywhere. Temple is on the
small valley of hilltop, fulling with ancient
temples? feature. It was firstly built
in the Tang dynasty and zhenyuan two years (786).
Li Keyong and Li Cunxu who were father
and son went to the Buddha to incense, and
the condition of the temple up to an
unprecedented level. It was destroyed in late Song
dynasty by the war, and was rebuilt
during the reign of Ming Emperor Hongwu
(1368-1398) , afterwards it was rebuilt
for several times. Only the brick pagoda upon
the hill which in front of the temple
is still keep the structure of Song dynasty. The
lodge beside the temple is the reading
place of Fushan, who was a thinker in the late
Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty.
Juewei Mountain
Juewei
Mountain is located 24 kilometer northwest of jian
cao ping district of Taiyuan
City,
Chaicun town, huyan village West. The orientation
is north-south, it is about
1400 meters
above sea level. Green peak in the south, and
flying cloud peak in the
north. Two
peaks are tall and straight, sandwiching a east-
west deep
groove,confronting each other
across the groo
ve, as the mountain?s
portal. Looking
down from the top,
surrounding mountains like mountains circle
around,
forming a huge vortex, which
likes a horn that was upside down , also likes a
large
disk. With pines and cypresses
surrounding there, it pretends a flourishing
picture. In
spring, bright mountain
flowers are in full bloom . In autumn, maple
leaves all over
the mountains glow red.
“Juewei red autumnal leaves” is one of the eight
views of
Taiyuan.
Great
Buddha in Mengshan
Mengshan Buddha is
located about 20 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan
city, it is
Gaoyang emperor of Beiqi
who built the 63 meters high and carved Buddha
which
located in cliff during Tianbao
two years. It also known as West Mountain Buddha.
The temple which lies at the foot of
the Buddha was the early ashram of the pure land
