The stone house, named
Church Cottage, dates back
to(

125 miles
west
of
London.
It
was
once
J.K.
Rowling’s
home.
The
f
amous
writer
got
the
idea
of
Harry
Potter
’s story from it.
People all over the world got to know the house
after her first Harry Potter
book came
out.
Rowling
lived
in Church Cottage
before
she
went
to
university
at
the
age
of 19. Then
her
father continued
living there and didn’t leave it until
he sold it to Mercer in 1995. Before leaving
there, Rowling wrote a message on her
bedroom wall. The new owner has kept the message
till
now.
“It is an
interesting house,” said Mercer. “The stone
windows look like th
ose of Hogwarts

school in
Harry Potte
r. The
trapdoor(
地板门
) in the dining
room leads to a small
cellar(

). It is quite
scary, just like the rooms in her books. “More
interestingly, Mercer often meets
Harry Potter
fans
around the house.” For year
s, every
time a book or a film
came
out, there were
always some people
asking to come in and see the house,” Mercer said.
“ I’m lucky to live here, in

my
favorite story.”
But
according to a report, Rowling recently bought her
childhood home from Mercer and is
painting it. People try to find out
what Rowling will do with the 170-year-old house.
Some people
think she will set it up as
a museum like Shakespeare’s Birthplace, while more
people believe she
will provide a
vacation home for families in need. Which
guess is more truthful? Let’s wait and
see.
46. Why is Church
Cottage famous?
A. Because
Rowling’s message is in it.
B. Because Rowling wrote Harry Potter
in it.
C. Because Rowling
got the idea of her book from it.

_______.
A. a house seller
B. Rowling’s big fan
C. Harry Potter’s filmmaker
48. Which of the following is true
about Church Cottage?
A. It is a film
base popular with fans.
B. It is a
famous old house in England.
C. It is a
vacation house f
or Rowling’s
family.
A. not sure about
B. worried about
C. certain of
49. The writer
of the passage is _______ Church
Cottage
’s future.
50. What’s the best title for the
passage?
A. Rowling’s
childhood home —
Church Cottage
B. The story of Harry Potter
C. Church Cottage’s new

B
Twenty-
four
trains,
nine
countries,
13,
500
miles.
These
are
the
numbers
behind
the
long
train journey one man took from
Southampton in the UK to eastern China. Roger
Tyers, 37, spent
a month on trains and
over $$2, 500 traveling to Ningbo for research last
May. It was the climate
crisis
(
危机
), not a love of trains,
that made him choose to take the train instead of
the plane to
China.
Tyers is
not the only person to stop air travel because of
climate change. Thousands of people
worldwide have promised to stop flying,
including teenage activist
(
青年活动家
) Greta Thunberg.
Activist
Maja
Rosen
started
the
“Flight
Free”
movement
in
Sweden
in
2018
in
the
hope
of
encouraging 100,000
people not to fly for one year. Although only
around 14,000 people joined
the
movement, Rosen, who stopped flying in 2007, said
it had made more people know about the
seriousness of the climate crisis and
encouraged them to travel by train more often.
According to the study made in May 2019
by Swedish Railways(SJ), 37% of people chose to
travel by train instead of by plane
whenever possible, compared to 20% at the start of
2018. An SJ
spokesperson said, “Rail
travel is
soaring
thanks to
climate fears (
担忧
).”
According to Swedavia,
a company which
runs Sweden’s
10 busiest airports, last
year, passenger numbers in July fell by
12% compared to the
previous(
先前的
) year.
Now, more people care about climate
change. In fact, there are lots of things we can
do to
fight climate change. One of the
problems is that most of
us feel
there’s no point in what we do as
an
individual (
个人
). However, if
we do it together, we can truly make a huge
difference.
51.
Tyers came to China last May to
_______.
A. take a holiday
B. do research
C. take the
train
52. What do we know about the
“Flight Free” movement?
