Foreword

This Group Standard has been coordinated with the responsi-

ble departments of the BMW Group.

Scope of application and purpose

This standard serves for the consistent evaluation and gra-

ding of the surface quality of all decorative coatings on plastic,

steel and non--ferrous metals in all degrees of lustre in the ve-

hicle exterior of all BMW and MINI vehicles.

The entire process chain from delivery quality at BMW (QMT)

through to dispatch quality (dispatch by the BMW Group) is

scrutinised.

This standard does not apply for the assessment of painted

surfaces. For this purpose refer to GS 97003.

This standard may be supplemented by component--specific

quality specifications (QS).

Functional tests for release processes are not part of this stan-

dard.

It is released for the application in the product audit by the

department for “Corporate quality vehicle audit”.

places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter. The

The visual inspection of the surfaces with regluar eysight is

performed under the following conditions:

-- viewing distance to the component approx. 0.5 m,

-- component to be in vehicle installation orientation,

-- the illumination conditions are to be selceted to suit the re-

quirements on audit test sites of functional area “

The evaluation zones of the galvanised components do

not

correspond to the zoning according to GS 97003. Zoning is

performed based on the specific component and may be do-

cumented in a component drawing.

5 Surface characteristics and evaluation of

same

5.1

General requirements

The values specified in the following tables always apply per

evalaution zone per component.

Application of the evaluation guideline is based on the custo-

mer relevant audit standard which is regularly coordinated

between Corporate Quality and the plants by means of the so-

called standard matching. In well- founded individual cases

standard matching allows for deviation in the evaluation of the

individual defect patterns.

5.2

Evaluation index (BI)

For the evaluation of the vehicles the evaluation index (BI) ac-

cording to VA 4.4.5/6 applies.
