A
My
Love
,
It is with
the fondest regards that I am writing this letter.
When I think of you, my
heart skips a
beat and my knees grow weak. I need you. I want
you. I long for you.
We've
shared moments of
real joy
when I've given myself to you.
In the
kitchen. On
the
couch. In my
bedroom.
But
my
family
and
friends
are
starting
to
get
worried.
You've
changed
me.
I
do
not
like
the person I see in the mirror. I've
stopped going to the beach because I want you with
me
at
all
times
and
you
can't
stand
the
heat.
I
no
longer
enjoy
shopping
with
my
girlfriends
because
I
can
see
you
on
every
inch
of
my
body
and
so
can
they.
I
cannot
hide
my
love
affair
with
you any more because it is written all over my
face. And my arms. And my legs. And
my
abdomen(
腹部
)
.
Being
with
you
has
been
great.
The
satisfaction
I
get
from
one
night
with
you
is
unlike
any
other. Though
,
the
regret
and
disappointment
I now
experience in
the morning
is
increasing.

everywhere but I will be strong.
Your
inviting
smell
can

longer
attract
me.
Your
ability
to
know
exactly
what
I
want
when
I want
it can no longer win me over. This is not going to
be easy and I know I am going
to miss
you more than anything I've ever given up before.
But I will be better for it in
the end.
So
,
I am writing
to you with passion(

,
begging you to stay out of my

had fun together but it's
time I got over you. Goodbye, my love. Goodbye,
chocolate.

C
When I
was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I
could leave home and escape to
the
city. We lived on a farm, and in the winter
especially, we were quite cut off from the
outside
world.
As
soon
as
I
left
school,
I
packed
my
bags
and
moved
to
the
capital.
However,
I soon discovered
that city life has its problems, too.
One big disadvantage is money. It costs so much to
go out, not to mention basics like
food
and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I
suffer from asthma(
哮喘
), and
at
times
the
air
is
so
bad
that
I
am
afraid
to
go
outside.
Then
there
is
the
problem
of
traveling
round. Although I
have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic
jams. One choice is
to go by bicycle,
but that can be quite dangerous.
Of
course
there
are
advantages.
First,
there
is
so
much
to
do
in
the
city,
whatever
your
tastes
in
culture
or
entertainment(
娱乐活动
).
Besides,
there
are
wonderful
jobs
and
greater
chances of moving to a more important
job or position. Finally, if you like shopping,
the
variety
of
goods
is
very
surprising
——
and,
what
is
more,
shops
are
often
only
a
short
walk
away.
Is
life
better
then,
in
the
city?
Perhaps
it
is,
when
you
are
in
your
teens
or
twenties.

However, as
you get older, and especially if you have small
children, the peace of the
countryside
may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back
there soon.
28. What was the writer
always thinking about when he was a child?
A. Staying on the farm.
B. Leaving home for the city.

Moving to the countryside. D. Running away
from the school.
29. Which of the
following is true about the writer?
A. He is very old now. B. He is in
good health.
C. He lives in the city
now. D. He prefers driving a car.
30. In the passage, the writer
tries to __________.
A.
express his
opinions about way of life
B. describe his life in the
countryside
C. have an interest in
the outside world
D.
persuade the reader to live in the city
31. How is the passage mainly
developed?
A. By inferring.
B. By giving explanations.
C.
By listing examples. D. By comparing.
D
I got my first driver’s
license(执照
)in 1953 by taking driver
education in my first
year
at
Central
High
School
in
Charlotte,
North
Carolina.
Four
years
later
when
it
was
time
to renew
(更新)
my
license I was a married woman. Henry and I were
living in Baltimore,
Maryland. Two
weeks before my 20th birthday, Henry drove me to
the motor vehicle office
on a hot July
afternoon. When I got to the office and showed to
the man behind the counter
my North
Carolina driver’s license, ready to renew, the man
told me that I was under
the
age
by Maryland law since I
was not yet 21. “Mr. Henry Smith, your husband,
will have to
sign for you,” he
said.
I argued, pointing to
a very large belly(
肚子)of mine,” I am
married. I am having a
baby.
Why
should
I
have
to
have
someone
sign
for
me
to
drive?”
He
answered
coldly,
“It’s
the
law, madam?”
Henry
encouraged me to calm down, just go ahead and get
the license and be done with it
“No.” I
said. I refus
ed to have him sign for
me. So I left without a Maryland license.
