My Dear
Son Cong:
收到
9
月
22
We are pleased to have received your
sixth letter dated September 22.
However, we do not feel disturbed or
worried because of what you wrote in your previous
letter.
In my eighth
letter, I forewarned you that these bouts of
depression would happen again in the
future.
I’ve been there, and so I am not at all
surprised that happened.
Also
you shouldn’t worry about it.
More so, you shouldn’t hold it inside
you and don’t tell us about it.
If you can’t air your lonesomeness in a
family letter, where else can you let it all
out?
To
whom could a child vent his grief other than to
his parents?
We don’t come along to console you, who
should comfort you instead?
During our lifetime, our moods go up
and down like a yo-yo.
惟有庸碌的人,生活才如死水一般;
Only lives of mundane people stay flat
like still water.
Alternatively, well-seasoned people
stay tranquil and relaxed without real
concerns.
It is fine so long as emotion highs do
not stress you out and emotional lows do not drain
you.
Overly scorching sun would fry grain-
plants and excessively inundating rain would drown
farm-crops.
We won’t get hurt so long as our moods
stay stable.
You
are not the type who tumbles and can’t pick
yourself back up again.
I expect your experience during these
few years overseas has been a great help to your
development as a
person.
I understand and sympathize with your
pains that are mentioned in your
letter.
You
can count on my consolation and encouragement to
the greatest degree possible.
Didn’
t Jean-Christophe go
through similar situations many times as
well?
Wasn’t he the epitome and manifestation
of all artists?
Slowly you will develop a different
state of mind to handle matters similar to those
situations in the past.
That is, you will be able to anticipate
things in happening and will not be taken by
surprise again.
You will be able to analyse causes and
consequences of events objectively.
Then you can use them for future
references to prevent making similar mistakes
again.
A person needs to have the courage to
confront reality and past mistakes.
As
such, he can come up with sensible analysis and
in-depth appreciation.
Only
then he won’t be weighed down by bad
memories.
I believe in time you will learn this
approach and get tougher.
ruin
Previously in
my letter I mentioned to you about how to handle
sentimental ruins, and that is to look at
those experiences as foregone mental
ashes.
Of
course when you look, you can’t help but feel
poignant about them.
But you must not let them get to you in
a big way, but to face them with an indifferent
mindset as if you
were reminiscing
ruins from ancient battlefields.
If you concur with I’m saying here,
these words would be enlightening to
you.
In
the future when you are feel pains from memory of
past experiences (which inevitably will come
again), please take this letter out and
read it over several times.

We
expected some time ago we would receive your
letter during New Year, and we looked forward to
it
as if it was a special
gift.
As it turned out we received your
letter yesterday morning, and Son, it was somewhat
of good news to us.
孩子
!
Son, if we were at the theater, we
would not have been able to hold back our bursting
tears.

The purest euphoria in this world is to

Besides, we are
thrilled that you have made your country proud,
and that you have also made many
people

!
My heart almost jump out from my mouth
at thinking you will continue to better your
accomplishments,
progress to unlimited
new heights, serve well-being of more people,
liven their spirits, and console their

What a sa
cred and
glorious mission that you are able to promote
music legends’ masterpieces and spread
them to every corner of the
earth!
Son, you are enjoying a gratifying life
and God has provided you with favorable
treatments.
What pleases and
comforts me the most is flatteries and accolades
have not destroyed the self-realization
of who you really are.
!
In spite of applause, embraces, and
celebrities’ praises, you have maintained
yo
ur modesty toward art.
!
All my teachings given to you and your
struggles for twenty years have not gone to
waste.
