A primary school principal in north China has become the latest internet celebrity for busting
some cool moves during a morning exercise routine with his students.
Every morning, 40-year-old principal Zhang Pengfei at the Xi Guan Primary School in Linyi
county, Shanxi
province would lead about 700 pupils on the playground in a synchronised “ghost
shuffle”
routine—
a
dance
that
incorporates
contemporary
jazz
steps
with
heel,
toe
and
arm
movements.
The
bold
headmaster
thought
the
fun
and
energetic
exercise
routine
would
better
encourage students to get active instead of “being glued to their mobile phones”.

The school’s new 30
-minute dance routine has replaced the government-imposed broadcast
callisthenics programme(
广播体操
), a short workout that has been a requirement at every primary,
middle
and
secondary
school
in
China
since
1951.
“I
thought
we
needed
a
change
because
the
students have been losing interest in doing the broadcast callisthenics routine,” Zhang told Southern

3

Metropolis News.
The dedicated principal said he ca
me across a group of people doing the “ghost shuffle” routine
at a public plaza last summer and decided to learn
the dance himself. “I thought the dance would be
great for kids,” he said. “The music is full of energy and it really gets the happy feeling of

flowing.”

编舞
) routine to all of his students and shortly after,

teachers
and
staff
were
joining
in.
“Now
the
students
aren’t
constantly
on
their
phones.
I
sometimes catch them watching different dance rout
ine videos and learning new moves!” the proud
headmaster told reporters.
The
video
quickly
went
around
on
Chinese
social
media,
with
a
Weibo
topic
page
titled
“principal leads students in ghost dance routine” gathering 250 million views. “This is perhaps t
he
best adaption of sport and entertainment for children.” a comment on Weibo read.

)in Canada will soon allow doctors to prescribe art to
their patients

by giving them free access to a local museum. Wandering through the Montreal
Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), these patients and their loved ones will be able to feast their eyes on
the peaceful collections of art.
The
initiative
is
the
first
of
its
kind
in
the
world.
And
while
you
certainly
can

t
replace
a
conventional treatment with a couple of paintings,
the idea is for such

prescriptions

to assist a
person

s current treatment plan. Under the new program, members of the Francophone Association
of Doctors in Canada (MFDC) will be able to hand out up to 50 prescriptions for their patients.
These
prescriptions
will
be
available
for
those
with
a
wide
range
of
mental
and
physical
illnesses

and each of them will allow two adults and two children to visit the museum for free.

By offering free admission to a safe

welcoming place, a relaxing experience, a moment of
relief, and an opportunity to strengthen ties with loved ones, MMFA-MFDC Museum Prescriptions
contribute to the patient

s well-being and recovery

outcomes.

some
ways,
the
benefits
of

at
art
appear
a
little
similar
to
physical
activity.

systematic review of clinical art therapy (
疗法
) found that visual art has significant and positive
effects
on
depression,
anxiety,
mood,
and
self-esteem.
Findings
like
these
are
slowly
gaining
attraction in the medical community,
making artwork a higher priority (
优先
) in hospitals around
the world.
In the US,
nearly half of all health care institutions have reported including art in health care
programming, such as art therapy and the placement of visual art in hospitals. With spaces dedicated
(

) to art therapy and also a medical consultation room, the MMFA already provides services
for people with mental health issues, eating disorders, and Alzheimer

The mass death of flying foxes in extreme heat in North Queensland last month underlines the
importance of University of Queensland wildlife research released today. The UQ research sheds
light on how various species have responded to major climate events.
A study led by UQ School of Earth and Environmental Science researcher Dr. Sean Maxwell
has spent more than 70 years quantifying the responses of various species.
“The growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as cyclones, droughts
and floods is causing unpredictable and immediate changes to ecosystems and blocking existing
management
efforts,”
Dr.
Maxwell
said.

“Some
of

the
negative
responses
we
found
were
quite
concerning, including more than 100 cases of dramatic population declines and 31 cases of local
population extinction following an extreme event.”

Populations

bird
species
in
Hawaii,
such
as
the
palia,
have
been
annihilated due to drought, leaving none of its kind, and populations of lizard species have been
