CAROL: Oh, that must be me! Probably they typed the name wrong.
My husband's English isn't so good.
DESK PERSON: Yes, sometimes it happens, Ma'am.
That's why it is always good to carry your confirmation number.
I'm sorry about the inconvenience.
CAROL: It's okay. It's probably my husband's fault.

DESK PERSON: Yes, of course.
The pool is open until 10:00 p.m. So you still have about 45 minutes.

J - I - A - N - G。
卡萝:C - A - R - O - L。
是 J - A - N - G,不是 J - I - A - N - G。

On The Plane
CHARLIE: Excuse me. Is anyone in that seat next to you?
ANGELA: No, I don't think so.
CHARLIE: Do you mind if I put my jacket there?
ANGELA: No. It's no problem.
ANGELA: Are you American?
CHARLIE: Yes. And you?
ANGELA: No. I'm from Taiwan. Can't you see?
CHARLIE: Well, there are many Chinese Americans, you know.
And your English is very good. You sound like an American.
ANGELA: I don't think so. You are flattering me.
CHARLIE: No, really. I can only hear a little accent.
ANGELA: Are you flying home?
CHARLIE: Well, yes. Actually, I'm going back to visit.
ANGELA: You were visiting Taiwan?
CHARLIE: No, I'm going back to America to visit.
I'm from America, but I don't live there now. I live in Taichung.
ANGELA: Really! You live in Taiwan!
CHARLIE: Yes. Why not?
ANGELA: May I ask what your job is in Taiwan?
CHARLIE: Sure. I teach history in a university. Have you heard of Don
g-Hai University?
ANGELA: Of course. It's a good school. How long have you lived in Tai
chung?
CHARLIE: I have lived in Taichung for two years now.
So this is the second time I am going back to the States.
I go back once a year to visit my family.
ANGELA: It must be strange for you to live in Taiwan.
CHARLIE: No, it isn't strange at all.
Many people from Taiwan move to America too, you know.
Do you think it is strange for them?
ANGELA: No. Well, I don't know.
But Taiwan is so crowded. Don't you miss life in America?
CHARLIE: There are some things I miss. But I love Chinese food.
And I think the people in Taiwan are really hospitable.
Besides, I grew up in Los Angeles, so I'm used to living in crowded p
laces.
Why are you going to America?
ANGELA: I'm going to New York to visit my sister. She is in art schoo
l.
I've never been to New York before. I'm kind of scared.
CHARLIE: Why?
ANGELA: Well, I know a lot of people have guns there. I think maybe i
t isn't too safe.
CHARLIE: Don't worry about it.
Your sister lives there. She probably knows the places in town you sh
ouldn't go.
It's true there are some dangerous places in big American cities.
But if your sister lives there, she must know the city pretty well al
ready.
ANGELA: Yes, I'm not really scared. Maybe only a little.
CHARLIE: Don't believe what you see on TV. You will have a good time
in New York.
What things do you want to see?
ANGELA: I want to see the museums, and I want to shop a lot.
CHARLIE: The museums are excellent. And the shopping!
Well! I'm sure you'll spend a lot of money there.
ANGELA: Hmm. I hope not.

Renting A Car
NICK: I think you made the right choice, coming to us.
We have a wide selection of vehicles you can choose from.
DAVID: I would like to rent a car with a good stereo.
NICK: All our cars have stereos in them.
Stereos, air conditioning. It's all standard with us.
DAVID: Good. I am here visiting my girlfriend. I want her to have a g
ood time.
NICK: Oh, is that so?
Well, then. Let me show you something she might like. It's on our bac
k lot.
DAVID: This is a Porsche!
NICK: Yes. Beautiful, isn't it?
DAVID: But I probably can't afford it. It must be really expensive.
NICK: Well, sir. You said you were looking at cars at the rental agen
cy at the airport.
Now with them you'd spend your money and get nothing for it.
But you could probably rent this Porsche from us,
for the same price as one of their standard cars.
DAVID: But how can you do that?
NICK: It's because our prices are so good.
And this car has a lot of miles on it. But it's in nice shape, isn't
it?
DAVID: Yes, it almost looks new.
NICK: Take a seat inside and see what you think.
NICK: So you will take the Porsche then, sir?
DAVID: Yes, and I want to buy the insurance too. I think it's necessa
ry.
NICK: You're smart to buy it. At 45 dollars for three days, it is a g
ood deal.
DAVID: Can I return the car in San Francisco?
NICK: San Francisco? No, sir.
We only have this office here. You will have to return it here.
DAVID: Really? I heard in America you can return rental cars in diffe
rent cities.
NICK: No, sir. That's only with the very big companies.
I'm sorry, but this car must be returned to this lot.
DAVID: Well, I guess I will have to drive back down then. Hmm. I didn
't think of that.
NICK: Do you still want the car, sir?
DAVID: Yes. It will be fun. Driving back down the coast. My girlfrien
d will like it.
NICK: It's a beautiful drive.
DAVID: Where are the keys?
NICK: Just a moment, sir. We have to finish filling out the forms.
