begins
an old manuscript in a library
in Paris
—
the travel diary
of Ibn Battuta.
Almost two centuries
before Columbus, this young Moroccan set off for
Mecca,

In
one
adventure,
he
traveled
to

seeking
suitable
employment with the sultan
—
the Muslim ruler of Delhi.
On the way, he described
his group
being attacked in the open country by 80 men on
foot, and two horsemen:
“… I was hit by
an arrow and my horse by another, but God in his
grace preserved
me ...” In Delhi, the
sultan gave him the position of judge, based
on
his previous study
at
Mecca. But the sultan had an unpredictable
character, and Ibn Battuta looked for an
opportunity to leave. When the sultan
offered to finance a trip to China, he agreed. Ibn
Battuta set off in three ships, but
misfortune struck while he was still on the shore.

ship,

all
his

After
a lifetime of amazing
adventures,
Ibn
Battuta was
finally
ordered
by the
Sultan of Morocco to return home to
share his wisdom with the world. Fortunately, he
agreed and wrote a book that has been
translated into numerous languages, allowing
people everywhere to read about his

Nowadays,
an
increasing
number
of
young
Chinese
spend
money
because
they
are
“lazy”. According to
a
report issued in
December by
China’s e
-commerce platform
Taobao on China’s “lazy economy”,
Chinese people spent 16 billion yuan on products
and
services
online
in
2018.
The
post-
1995
generation
was
the
“laziest”
as
its
consumption increased by
82 percent, compared with that in 2017.
The so-called lazy economy refers to a
new type of consumption of products and
services
which
are
designed
to
save
time
and
labor.
According
to
the
report,
many
people
of
the
post-1995
generation
buy
high-tech
electronic
devices
such
as
floor
mopping
robots
and
automatic
window
cleaners,
which
save
the
trouble
of
doing
household chores. Meanwhile, take-out
food delivery services are also popular among
people born after 1995.
Young people are willing to spend money
on such products because they want to
enjoy
hard-earned
leisure
time
after
a
busy
and
stressful
day
at
work
or
school,
reported
Global
Times.
Because
they
need
to
focus
on
their
studies
or
jobs,
these
so-
called lazy people tend to use their leisure time
more efficiently. For example, Wei
Duo,
a
21-year-old
college
student,
is
a
frequent
user
of
take-out
food
delivery
services.
I
once
had
a
birthday
cake
delivered
to
my
friend
who
lives
far
from
my
home.
It
cost
me
50
yuan
but
it
saved
me
almost
half
a
day
that
would
have
been
needed to deliver it
myself. My friend was also happy because she got
to cat the cake
instantly’’ Wei told
the Global Times.
While
the
“lazy
economy”
might
be
c
onvenient
for
young
people,
it
might
also
create
problems.
The
‘lazy
economy’
on
campus
is
expressed
in
things
like
people
buying food or other
things without leaving the dormitory. As a result,
they stay in
their dormitories all day
long, playing on computers and smart phones.
According to
Jinan Daily, this
situation could lead to young people becoming less
sociable and even
developing
problems
of
communicating
with
others.
Young
people
should
be
alert
(警觉的)
to it.

Being able to land safely is a
critically important skill for all flying animals,
While
terrestria
l
animals face the same challenge when they need to
stop running
or crawling. Flying
animals move at much higher speeds and they must
be careful
about how they land. Hitting
the ground, or even water, at full flight speed
would
be quite dangerous. Before
touching down, they must decrease their speed in
order
to
land safely. Both
bats and birds have mastered the skill
of landing. but
these
two
types of flyers go about it quite differently.
In the past
it was believed
that, in
terms
of flying
mechanics, there was little
difference
between
bats
and
birds.
In
recent
years,
though
researchers
have
discovered a number of interesting
facts about bat flight. Bats are built differently
from
binds,
and
their
wings
incorporate
both
their
front
and
hind
limbs.
This
makes their limbs working together more
difficult for bats and, as a result, they
are
not
very
good
at
flying
over
longer
distances.
However,
a
bat
can
quickly
change
its
direction
of
flight
or
completely
reverse
it,something
a
bird
cannot
easily do.
Another
interesting
characteristic
of
bat
flight
is
the
way
in
which
bats

-upside down .Unlike birds, which touch
down on the ground or on tree branches, bats
can be observed flying around and then
suddenly hanging upside down from an object
overhead. How do they do it?A group of
researchers recently used video cameras to
film bats landing on nets suspended
from the ceiling of their laboratory and studied
the recordings in slow motion. They
painted spots on the bats' wings to see in detail
what happens to the wings in flight and
during touchdown. It turns out that the bats
flew
in
a
straight
line
up
to
the
net
and
then
quickly
flipped
over
and
attached
themselves to it
upside down. One disadvantage to this landing
routine is that the bats
often
slam
into
their
landing
spot
with
some
force,
which
probably
causes
pain.
However, not all bats
hit their landing spots with the same speed and
force, these will
vary depending on the
area where a bat species makes its home.
28. In paragraph 1,
the
underlined
word
terrestrial is closest in meaning to
A
high-flying
B. fast-moving
C tree-climbing
D. ground-
living
29. According to the passage,
what is an advantage that bats have over birds?
A: Bats can land on a greater variety
of surfaces.
B:Bats can turn in the air
more quickly.
C. Bats can eat while
flying
D. Bats are lighter.
30. What is the main topic of the
passage?
A. Places where flying animals
choose to land
B. Why scientists have
difficulty observing bats
C.
Differences in the eating habits of bats and birds
D. Ways in which bats move differently
