Profits of Online Learning
According
to
a
recent
research,
nearly
50%
of
higher
education
institutions
currently
engage in some type of online learning. In China,
academic and professional
organizations
agree
that
using
web-based
learning
environments
can
offer
sound
pedagogical
profits.
The
web
provides
significant
functionality
in
transmitting
information to the student and
providing forum for exchange. As far as I
concerned,
online
education
can
enhance
communication
between
people,
enable
student-centered teaching approaches
and provide accessibility to course materials.
Firstly,
online
learning
can
enhance
student-to-student
and
faculty-to-student
communication, which will definitely
benefit students a lot. Researchers have found
that adding online learning methods,
including discussion boards, chats and e-mails,
to
a
course
increases
students
’
motivation
and
participation
in
class
discussion.
Through
online
learning,
each
student
can
view
other
students
’
answers
and
learn
through
the
exposures
to
different
perspective,
and
thus
students
can
combine
new
opinions with their own as well as
develop a solid foundation for learning.
Secondly,
instead
of
our
traditional
teacher-centered
teaching
methods,
online
learning can provide
us with student-centered teaching approaches.
Every student has
a
unique
learning
style.
Some
students
are
visual
learners,
while
some
learn
better
when they learn by
doing. And web-based learning environments permit
instructors to
build
one
course,
yet
implement
a
variety
of
recourses,
so
students
can
utilize
materials in which
way works best for them.
Thirdly,
online
learning
also
gives
students
an
outstanding
opportunity
to
have
access
to
course
materials.
Some
students
work
best
in
the
morning,
some
in
the
evening. Some students
commute to campus and others take night classes.
Continual
access
to
materials
when course
content and activities are provided online,
students
will no longer need to worry
about accessing materials. Meanwhile, continual
access
to course documents insures
students can obtain materials at any time,
removing the
opportunity for some
frustrations.
In
conclusion,
the
integration
of
web-based
learning
components
with
software
