Unit 1
Job Interview
Text A
Interview Etiquette
Interview
etiquette
is
a
very
important
part
of
getting your dream job. You know you
can do
the job, but can you get the
job? When you are
looking
for
a
new
job,
you
need
to
know
the
acceptable
way
to
behave
so
that
you
come
across
as
a
professional
whom
the
employer
does
not
want
to
pass
up.
What
protocols
do
you need to adhere to? What should you
wear?
How
to
you
calm
your
nerves
before
an
interview?
Hopefully
you
will
find
these
hints
and
tips useful for securing that job.
Professional
Attire(
着装
)
Before
you go for your interview,
you need to
make sure you are well groomed, that
your hair
is clean and tidy,
that
your
nails
are clean and
that
you
present
a
fresh
appearance.
When
dressing
for
an
interview
it
is
best
to
dress
conservatively,
even
if
the
company
does
not
have a
dress code. Many of the interviewers do
not wear suits, so what do you do? If
you have
a chance to observe the
company employees at
work, you will see
how they dress and that can
help
you
do
decide
what
to
wear
for
the
interview.
If
any
case,
however,
you
should
dress
professionally unless the interviewer tells
you
otherwise,
and
pay
attention
to
the
following
details:
First, you need to avoid large
expanses of bold,
contrasting
color,
glitter
and
shine,
and
excessive
trim.
Second,
you
should
also
consider
appropriateness
and
comfort:
sandals,
fishnet
stockings,
white
socks,
tennis
shoes,
heavy
makeup,
large
amounts
of
jewelry
and
too
little skirt are inappropriate; heavy wool in
100 degree Fahrenheit heat is
inappropriate, as
is linen in a
blizzard; tight shoes or clothes are
also
not
your
choice,
for
they
are
not
comfortable and will distract you when
you are
interviewed. Third, the color
and style of
your
clothes
should
coordinate
well.

;
p>
;
;
striped
jacket
does
not
look
good
with
black
pants.
Good
color
and
style
combination
can
definitely
make
you
feel
confident.
Finally,
be
considerate of others;
don’t use heavy amounts
of
perfume
or
aftershave,
for
some
people
are
allergic. Besides, you want a job, not
a date.
Time to Turn up
Arrive
early
for
your
interview;
it’s
always
better
to
be
a
few
minutes
early
than
late.
Rushing
around
will
make
you
stressed
and
unable to project that aura of calmness
that is so
desperately
needed,
and
as
well
as
upset
the
interviewers.
According
to
the
recent
employers,
survey,
it
shows
that
12%
of
the
interviewers would
disqualify the job candidate
from
contention, if he or she is 5 minutes late;
19%
of
them
will
do
the
same
for
the
interviewee’s being late for 10
minutes; 30% of
the employers will
never consider the candidate
if he or
she is late for 15 minutes.
However,
turning
up
early
does
not
mean
you
need to arrive as early
as you can. Do not turn
up
15
minutes
earlier,
or
you’ll
be
either
inconveniencing someone or sitting,
waiting in
reception for a long time.
Body Languages
We
watch
each
other’s
body
language
all
the
time, but are often unaware of our own.
Yet that
is
the
first
signal
that
we
are
happy
and
confident, or upset and
fearful. Interviewers are
especially
cognizant of body language, because
it
can tell them so much about you.
Your
handshake
is
one
of
the
most
important
body languages. Be
politely assertive and shake
hands
with
each
interviewer
while
looking
them
in
the
eye
and
giving
them
your
full
attention. Treat
everyone with respect, because
you
never
know
who
is
involved
in
the
recruitment
process.
It’s
common
for
even
the
receptionist
to
be
asked
their
opinion
of
candidates.
While
sitting
in
the
chair,
your
should
keep
your
back straight, but not rigid; your arms and
legs
relaxed,
but
neither
spread
too
far
apart,

;
;
