spring outing. to make this
activity
more wonderful, we discussed the destination
carefully
and finally decided to go
mountain-climbing instead of other
choices like playing in an amusement
park or going boating.
early in the morning, we gathered together at the
foot of the
mountain and started our
climbing in high spirits. looking
around and enjoying the beautiful
views, we felt so excited that
we
forgot the exhaustion. however, we were
disappointed/shocked when we reached
the top of the
mountain. the mountain
top was littered with different kinds of
rubbish
—
wasted
bottles, banana peels, and plastic bags, for
example. it was a great pity that the
beauty of nature was
totally
ruined.

doing nothing, we decided that we could make a
difference. everyone was involved in
picking up the litter and
sorting it
out into two
groups

recyclables and

recyclables. after that, we
put/dropped/threw/tossed the
rubbish/garbage/trash into the bins
separately.
though clearing
up the rubbish was a tough task, it gave us
complete fulfillment. it was a great
satisfaction to us that we
made
contributions to environment protection.
meanwhile, we
realized it was of great
importance to raise public awareness of
no littering in public areas.

capital airport. on our way back we chatted
happily. since it was the first time
that mike had been to beijing,
he was
curious about everything. in order to get him to
have a
better idea of chinese culture,
i arranged a series of activities
for
him.
after he dropped his
luggage and had a rest, i showed him
around the old streets nearby on a
rickshaw. the buildings
along the
streets witnessed the development of beijing. the
rickshaw driver gave a vivid
introduction to the history of
hutongs,
especially the famous maoer hutong, which
symbolized traditional chinese
construction in beijing. mike
felt
excited about being exposed to a totally different
culture
and he couldn’t help asking all
kinds of questions.
the
following day, i took him to mei lanfang grand
theater to
watch peking opera. although
he could understand few words,
the
fantastic costumes took his breath away. mike
spoke
highly of the unique way of
performing. he was deeply
impressed by
the colorful makeup and he considered it a real
feast.
how time
flew! it was time for him to leave for the us.
when he
was packing, i gave him a
chinese knot and a peking opera
mask as
souvenirs. mike appreciated what i had done for
him
and told me he had fallen in love
with beijing and the
diversified
chinese culture.
what a
fulfilling experience it was! i felt proud to have
this
opportunity to introduce chinese

fortunately i
was very familiar with the place, so i led them to
the nearby bus stop and advised them to
take bus no. 20,
which would take them
4 stops to get there. while we were
waiting for the bus, i also introduced
to them some interesting
stories about
the temple of heaven. they cheered up and
appreciated my help greatly. shortly
afterwards, the bus came.
we waved
goodbye to each other. i also wished them to enjoy
their travel in china. seeing them
getting on the bus, i felt so
delighted
to be able to help foreigners. it was really a
fantastic
experience for me!

immediately after we
arrived there, we started to roller skate.
we were skating around merrily,
chatting and laughing all the
time when
suddenly we heard a child crying sadly. wondering
what was happening / out of curiosity,
we slowed down, slid
over and saw a
girl standing near the exit of the
ch
ildren’s
amusement center
alone, with tears rolling down her face / in
panic. we talked with her and learned
that she got separated
from her mom and
was at a loss what to do.
hearing her story, we decided to help the girl. my
friend
volunteered to broadcast to
find her mother while i stayed
with
her, trying my best to comfort and amuse her. to
my relief,
the little girl calmed down
and stopped crying.
shortly
afterwards, a woman rushed towards us anxiously.
seeing her mother, the girl jumped with
joy, ran to her mother
and threw
herself into her mother’s arms. the mother
appreciated our help and she was moved
beyond words.
it was a
fantastic day for me. i not only enjoyed myself in
the
park with my friend but also
managed to help the girl find her
mother. it was great fulfillment that
we gave a hand to people
in need!
