四、阅读理解(本大题满分

20

分,每小题

2

分)

阅读下面三篇短文,并根据短文内容从所给的

A

、< /p>

B

C

D

四个选项中,选

出一个最佳选项。

A

Like

many

people,

I

have

no

clear

idea

about

heroes.

At

some

point,

we

all

wonder if we need a hero and what a hero really is.

Although

there

are

a

lot

of

differences

in

cultures,

heroes

around

the

world

generally share a number of characteristics which give us courage and make us want

to learn from them.

A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a special story to tell and

people think highly of it. But a hero is not just the person with great fame (

声誉

) .

A hero has larger power than himself. Some people want to live like a hero, and

they have to experience life with new and further meaning. A sure test for would-be

heroes

is

what

or

whom

they

serve.

What

do

they

want

to

live

and

die

for?

If

the

answer suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not

heroes.

A hero has a vision from the mountaintop. He has the power to move people. He

creates new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of Britain. Without

Martin Luther King, Americans might take different buses, eat in different restaurants,

go for walks in different parks, and shop in different stores because of the different

colors of their skin.

There might be changes in society without a hero, but the speed of change would

be rather slow. Thanks to heroes in history, they make the society develop so rapidly.

51. According to this passage, a hero is a person who always _______.

A. gives us courage

B. thinks highly of others

C. shares great fame

D. stands on the mountaintop

52. Black people in America used to _______ before Martin Luther King.

A. shop at the white's stores

B. drive buses with the white

C.

take

walks

in

the

white's

parks

D.

eat

in

restaurants

without

the

white

53. What can we learn from the passage?

A. We don't need heroes anymore at some point now.

B. Heroes are all the same though different in cultures.

C. People get power from heroes to move to a new place.

D. Our society has developed faster because of heroes in history.

B

From age eight to eleven, I attended a small school in Bath, England. It

was a

small school of four classes with about twenty-five children in each class according to

age. For the most part, one teacher had to teach all subjects to the children in the class.

However, sometimes the headmaster, Mr. Ronald Broaches, would come in and spend

an hour or so, teaching some subjects in which he was especially interested. He was a

large man with a very happy nature. He had a sense of humor and would delight in

telling the children small stories that would make us laugh. He was a very fair man

and had a great influence on many of the children. In my own case, I found that he

took great interest in me and he quickly found that I enjoyed puzzles. He would often

stop me as I was going to class and take a piece of paper out of his pocket, often with

a

puzzle

already

on

it.

The

puzzles

were

usually

mathematical

or

logical.

As

time

went on, they slowly got more difficult, but I loved them. Not only that, they made me

interested

in

math

and

problem

solving

that

stays

with

me

to

this

day.

They

also

served to show me that intellectual activity was rewarding when the correct answers

were

found,

but

perhaps

more

importantly

it

was

great

fun.

To

this

day,

I

can

remember Mr. Broaches' cheerful cry of

The simple communication with a man whom I loved greatly has had a deep influence

on my life. I shall forever be thankful that our paths crossed. Mr. Broaches died just

two

weeks

after

I

had

won

the

1993

Nobel

Prize

in

Physiology

or

Medicine.

Unluckily, I had no chance to speak to him before he died. I learnt later that he had

heard of my success and I will always hope that he knew the deep influence he had

made on my life.

By Richard

J. Roberts

54. From the passages, we can learn that ________.

A. the puzzles made the students laugh

B. the students were afraid of the headmaster

C. the puzzles made Richard enjoy math

D. the headmaster never taught in the school

55. The writer felt sorry because ________.

A. Mr. Broaches had passed away before he won the Nobel Prize

B. he didn't express his thanks before Mr. Broaches died

C. he couldn't find Mr. Broaches after he grew up

D. Mr. Broaches didn't know his success

56. What is the best title for the pas

sages?

A. The Story of Mr. Broaches

B. The Story of Richard J. Roberts

C. My Early School Life

D. An Important Teacher in My Life

C

If

you

want

to

deal

with

the

friendship

between

boys

and

girls,

here

are

some

“dos and don’ts” for you to follow.

Keep a normal and healthy state of mind. It is very natural for the boys and girls

to contact each other and build up the friendship with students of the other sex. We

should have more friends of the other sex instead of one or two. We should contact

the students in public instead of in secret.

Contact students of the other sex warmly, generously and sincerely.

Don’t be too

nervous or too

shy in

contact

with

a person of the other sex.

In that case it is

very

difficult for you to make a lot of friends, as no one likes a person who is too shy to

say a word. If you are too shy, you can contact the students with the same interest and

hobby as you. If you keep doing so, little by little, you will find you are also as free to

express yourself as others.

Don’t fall into the ditch(

泥潭

) of early love. The boys and girls at

adolescence

are rich in feeling and full of imagination. They are easy to regard the friendship as a

sign of love and to fall in love with each other at an early age. In my opinion, boys

and girls at middle school are too young and too tender(

嫩的

) to shoulder the heavy

duty of love. Early love is a

green apple that can’t be eaten. Do keep out of early love.

57.

We

should

contact

students

of

the

other

sex

in

the

following

ways

except_________.

A. with a good state mind

B. in public

C. in secret

D. warmly and generously

58.

The underlined word “

adolescence

” means ___

_______.

A.

当今时代

B.

青春期

C.

时尚

D.

童年

59. Which of the following is not true?

A. It is normal for boys and girls to build up the friendship.

B.

We’d better not make only one or

two friends of the other sex.

C. Some students are too nervous or too shy in contact with a person of the other

sex.

D. People like a person who always keeps silent.

60. The main idea of the reading is to __________.

A. tell students to keep away from early love

B. give some advice on how to deal with the friendship between boys and girls

C. say contact does good not only to boys but also to girls

D. teach boys how to talk with girls

五、补全对 话(本大题满分

个恰当的句子完成对话。
