Summary

One moonlight night of December in 1775, the young Doctor

Manette who lived in Pairs, was taking a walk when he was forced

by the brothers of Marquis. St. Evremonde to visit a patient at home.

In the home of the Marquis, he witnessed the miserable scene that

a mad peasant woman and a sword-wounded young man died

together with indignantly resent, and he knew that they were killed

by the brothers of Marquis for instant carnal pleasure. So he refused

the bribery of a large sum of money of the brothers, and wrote to

the court to accuse them. Unexpectedly, the accuse writing was

passed to the defendant, then the doctor was put in prison of the

Bastille, and from then on, he disappeared in the world of his own

and lost the contact with his family. Two years later, his wife died

with heartbroken, and his little orphan daughter Locie was took to

London by his friend Jarvis lorry, and was brought up by the

kind-hearted servant Miss Pross.

Eighteen years later, the poor old man was took in by Defarge,

who was his servant in the past, and now a wine dealer in a district

of Paris. At that time, his daughter has grown up, and she came to

company his father back to London. In the journey, they met with a

Paris young man Charles Darnay, and were cared carefully by him.

The fact was that Darnay was son of the Marquis, he hated the guilt
