The Shawshank Redemption
It was a story about hope and despair,
with a hopeful man in a despairing prison; it was
a
story about rules and chaos, with
basic living rules and chaotic administration; is
was a story about
freedom and
constraint, with a young man who wanted to leave
and a group of old men who were
unwilling
to
go.
In
this
story,
hope,
rules
and
freedom
coexisted
with
despair,
chaos
and
constraint.
The
Shawshank Redemption is an American drama film
directed by Frank Darabont in 1994.
In
this movie, we can transparently feel the power of
hope, as if a thriving sapling grow up in a
dessert. According to the Shawshank
State Penitentiary, where prisoners were deprived
of freedom
with stern and clear
discipline. People who were put in that prison
could hardly feel the hope until
a
young man’s coming.
In
1947,banker Andy was convicted of murdering his
wife and her lover, and was sentenced
to
twoconsecutive life
sentencesat
the
Shawshank
State
Penitentiary.
People
in
that
prison
had
lived for over ten
years, they had been accustomed to living there
without freedom, and nobody
knew
what
were
their
dreams
even
themselves.
Prison
life
consisted
of
routine,
and
then
more
routine. In fact,
having lived there for too much time, they even
did not want to leave, as Red said
“T
hese walls are kind of
funny like that. First you hate them, then you get
used to them. Enough
time passed, get
so you depend onthem. That`s institutionalized”.
Anyhow, Andy tried all the time,
he
never gave up hope, and he was always attempting
to have fun, such as repairing the house to
gain some to relax, managing financial
matters for Warden to acquire more freedom. About
one
month after Andy entered the
prison, he asked Red ,who could provide you
everything as long as
you had enough
money, a pickax and later a poster of Rita
Hayworth. Under the cover of these
two
things,
Andy
more
than
20
years
in digging a tunnel which Red thought
it was unable to drill though spent 600 years on
it. At last
he got out of the prison
by the tunnel.
Hope
is
a
good
thing,
maybe
the
best
of
things,
and
no
good
things
ever
die.“I
find
I'm so excited. I can barely sit still or hold a
thought in my head. I think it the
exciteme
nt only a free man can feel, a
free man at the start of a long journey whose
conclusion is uncertain.
