Located

models of stellar
evolution,
twice as massive as what we
thought possible. Now theorists will have to take
up the challenge of
explaining its
formation.
Scientists
are now scratching their heads at how LB-1 got so
huge.
The Chinese team
has proposed a number of theories. LB-1' sheer
size suggests that it
formed from the
collapse of only one star,
—
instead, it could potentially be two
smaller black holes orbiting each
other.
Another
possibility is that it formed from
—
the last stage of an
exploding star
—
ejects
material during the explosion, which then falls
back
into the supernova, creating a
black hole.
This
fallback formation is theoretically possible but
scientists have never been able to prove or
observe it. If this is how LB-1 formed,
then we may have
first time, the study
said.
There are several
types of black holes and stellar black holes like
LB-1 are on the smaller side,
according
to NASA. Supermassive black holes are much
bigger
—
they can be billions
of times the
mass of our
sun,
Scientists believe
supermassive black holes may be connected to the
formation of galaxies, as
they often
exist at the center of the mass star stems but it
is still not clear exactly how, or which
form first.

“Sometimes I hold the Chinese edition
and choose a story at
random and try to
guess which
one it is. But it is almost
impossible for me; even the length is different.”
says Schweblin. “When a
book is
translated into a Western language, I can at least
understand some parts of my stories,
and therefore suffer some doubt about
the quality of the translation. But my Chinese
edition is
more like an act of
faith.”
Born in
Argentina in 1978, Schweblin says she is
influenced by the literary traditions of the La
Plata area, home to many famous Latin-
American novelists.
Interested in writing stories of ordinary lives
where suddenly something extraordinary happens,
something new, strange or unknown, she
thinks, “The stranger and the unknown are not
always
related
to
ghosts
or
aliens,
but
can
be
something
related
to
the known
world,
something
that
actually could
happen.”
Birds in the Mouth
tells of
a divorced father who worries about his 13-year-
old daughter and
her mysterious
appetites. It turns out that his daughter eats
live birds.
The idea for
this story came
to Schweblin when she
was browsing the Internet, “Click, click,
click, a picture of a little girl who
looks frightened with her hands covering her mouth
came to my
eyes. Little by little, I
developed the story in my mind, and then wrote it
down” recalls S
chweblin.
Although
there

violence

bloodiness
in
Schweblin's
stories,

hides them, thinking the trick to
writing a thrilling story is to stop the monster

One
of
the
most
striking
findings
of
a
newly
research
in
the
UK
is
that
of
the

interviewed, one in
two believes that it is becoming more difficult to
meet someone to start a

with.
Why
are
many
finding
it
increasingly
difficult
to

close

Does
modem
life
really
make it harder to fall in love? Or are we making
it harder for ourselves? It is certainly the
case today that contemporary couples
benefit in different ways from relationships.
Women no
longer rely upon partners for
money or status. A man doesn't expect his wife to
be in (
唯一的

charge of running his household and
raising his children.
But perhaps the knowledge that we can live
perfectly well without a partnership means that it
takes much more to persuade people to
abandon their independence.
In theory, finding a partner should be much
simpler these days. Only a few generations ago,
your
choice
of

was
limited
by
geography,
social
convention
and
family
tradition.
Although it was never
clear
,
many marriages were
essentially arranged. Now those barriers have
been broken down. You can approach a
builder or a brain surgeon in any bar in any city
on any
given evening. When the world is
your oyster (
牡蛎
), you
surely have a better chance of finding a
pearl.
But
it
seems
that
the
old
conventions
have
been
replaced
by
the
limitations
of
choice.
The
expectations of partners are raised to
an unmanageable degree: good looks, impressive
salary,
kind to grandmother, and right
socks. There is no room for error in the first
impression.
We think
that a relationship can be perfect. If it isn't,
it should be ended. We work to protect
ourselves against future heartache and
don't put in the hard emotional labor needed to
build a
strong relationship. Twelve-
hour work at the office makes relaxed after-hours
dating difficult. The
cost of housing
and child-raising creates pressure to have a
stable income and Career before a life
partnership.

The Crow's Nest was a particularly useful point,
because it allowed a tennis writer to keep track
of the action on as many as 10 outside
courts at a time. At days end, reporters from
different
nations would share notes on
what they had observed all over the

to
have a rainy-day story in your
notebook because there were no guarantees any
matches would be
played. Now tennis is
a sure thing on Centre Court, which has made
tennis reporters a bit less
creative.
But at least it guarantees us daily access to the
most atmospheric place in the sport.
So much has changed, but Centre
Court remains true to its original spirit: more a
theater than a
stadium. Catching that
feeling is part of covering Wimbledon,
too.

Her

about
six
years ago, and since then I have never
met a more influential person in my

Mrs Monaf not only
conquered me with her vast knowledge of geography,
but also won me
over with her smile and
warm eyes. It was in her class that I traveled to
the highest mountains
and to the
deepest seas from the comfort of the classroom. I
learned about the vast oceans, the
erupting volcanoes, the snow-capped
mountains and the green valleys. She would often
relate
her adventures about traveling
to different parts of the world.
Never can I forget the glory of her
face when she talks about how truly beautiful this
world is. If
I search back my love for
the environment and geography, I find her to be
the source of my love

origins of puppet theatre are unknown,
it has been popular in many cultures and may have

new study shows that air pollution can cause a
huge reduction in our intelligence. The study
was a project involving researchers at
Peking University in China and Yale University in
the United

The researchers reported that long-

person's mental
abilities in two areas:
Language and math.
The
researchers
studied
about
25,000
people
from

China.
Between
2010

these Chinese men, women and children
were given language and math tests. Then
researchers
compared the test results
with measurements of pollution in the air, namely
nitrogen dioxide and
sulfur dioxide
(

Xi Chen of the Yale School of
Public Health led the study. He and his team found
that breathing
polluted air can reduce
a person's education level by about one
year.
Chen said that the
effect generally is worse for those over 64 years
of
age, for men and for
those with little or no
education.
“The older persons—
they are
more affected. And we find, quite amazingly, males
are more
affected
than
females.
And
people

are
more
affected
than
people

indoors.
He
noted that the youngest people in the study were
10 years old, while the oldest was 90
