a

he watched the man work on the sculpture, he
noticed that there was a similar sculpture lying
not far away.
He
felt strange and asked the sculptor, “Why are you
creating two

sculptures? Do
you need two to put

?”
“No.” the man
said without looking up, “We need only one, but
the first one became
damaged(

)
4
I
could finish it, so I’m
working on a new one.”
Bill
picked up the damaged sculpture and examined it
5
. But he couldn’t find
6
wrong with it.
“Where is the damage?” he
asked.
“There is a
scratch(
划痕
) on the
sculpture’s nose.” the sculptor said while
7
his work.
Bill then asked, “Where are you going
to place the sculpture?”
The
sculptor replied that it would be placed on a
place which is 20 feet in
8
.“If the
sculpture is up that
high,
who is going to notice that there is a scratch on
the nose?” Bill asked.
The
sculptor

his work,
looking up at the man and said, “I will know
it.”
The sculptor chose a

猫和老鼠
The cat
hunts the mouse. The mouse tries to avoid being
caught. It has always been this way.
It is not
11
being a mouse
in such circumstances(
环境
).
One day, the mice held a meeting. The topic of
12
was what to do about the
cat. “The cat is our enemy. We must do something
to
13
ourselves! ”cried
the other
mice. “We cannot live this way,
14
it is too dangerous to go out during
the day.”
There was general
agreement that a
15
must be found
to this serious problem. “I have an idea”, said
the
young mouse. “As we know,
16
problem is that the cat
appears silently when we least expect him. Just
hang a
bell around the cat’s neck. When
he comes, the bell will ring, and we will be
17
in time to run.”
Other mice applauded
(

18
and they all agreed with the
idea.
Just then, a wise old
mouse
19
and said, “That is a good
idea. Now may I ask, who will volunteer to hang
the bell around the cat’s
neck?”
There was general
silence
20
the mice then. No one stood
up to volunteer for such a dangerous job. The
old mouse said, “It is easy to suggest
a solution especially when carrying it out is
impossible.”

Is human
blood(
血液
) all the same? Of
course not. Blood is made up of different parts,
such as red blood cells,
white blood
cells and so on. Two chemical
molecules(
分子
)on the red
blood cells make people’s blood different.
Scientists mark one molecule “A” and
the other molecule “B”.
According to which and how many
molecules are on the red blood cells, scientists
divide blood into four types:
A, B, AB
and O. Your blood type will stay the same through
the whole life. Scientists have found that people
with
the same blood type may have
things in common.
People
with type A: They look peaceful from the outside.
But they ask so much of themselves that they may
be very nervous inside. They become
happy or sad easily. They can easily win people’s
trust.
People with type B:
They have strong minds. Once they begin a task and
make up their minds to do it, they
will
not give up easily. And they want to do things in
their own way.
People with
type AB: Maybe they are the strangest among all
blood types. They can be both open and shy,
noisy and quiet at the same
time!
People
with
type
O:
They’re
open
and
good
at
making
friends.
They
always
begin
tasks
but
don’t
always
finish them in the
end. They have lots of new ideas and they always
strongly believe in themselves.
