I
spent the opening day of school this year at
Reading Catholic High School in much the same
way I spent the first day of classes
exactly thirty years ago. I'm 31 of the
school now, but for
a few minutes I was
back in 1975, wondering what the future held.
I
have
been
32
from Dr. Offutt for thirty
of the
51
years
since
he
began to
teach
at
Reading.
He not only taught me to think, but he convinced
me, as much by 33 as words, that
it was my moral duty to do so and to
serve others.
34 of us
could know how our relationship would develop over
the years. When I first
came back to
Reading to teach 35 , I worked for Dr.
Offutt, then department
chair(
主席
).
After
several years, I was appointed department chair,
and our 36 changed again. I thought
that it might be 37 chairing
the department, since all of my former English
teachers were
still
there,
but
Dr.
Offutt
38
me
throughout.
He
knew
when
to
give
me
39
about
curriculum, texts and
personnel and when to let me design my own course.
In 2010, I needed his advice
about leaving Reading to become principal at
another school. If
he had asked me to
stay at Reading, I might have. 40 , he
encouraged me to seize the new
chance.
Five
years
ago,
I
became
headmaster
of
Reading.
Once
again
Dr.
Offutt
was
there
for
me,
letting me know that I
could 41 on him as I tried to fill such
big shoes. I've learned from him
that
great teachers have an endless wealth of lessons
to teach. Even if his students don't know it
yet, I know how 42 they are;
I'm still one of them.

Ninety-five percent of American
families are now online, with adults spending an
average of
five hours a day at home on
the computer, according to a recent poll. Yes,
we're connecting more
with friends, but
we're also ignoring dinner so we can update our
Facebook status. Does your
life
suffer
from
too
much
time
spent
logging
on,
and
do
you
properly
protect
your
family's
identity when you
do venture online? Here's how to take control.

people use
their computers to avoid the

recent
survey found 9 out of

publicly sharing additional
identifying
information, such as your child's full name, birth
date, and place of residence, could
put
him and his identity in danger. To avoid the risk,
invite loved ones only to view images on
password-protected sites. If you use
Facebook, create a group of your inner circle
specially for
sharing
photos
and
news
of
your
kids.
And
