Currently, it is not uncommon to notice the excessive use of packages: new clothes swathed

cardboard

boxes

wrapped

well- designed

plastic

bags,

imported bottles of wine packed in wooden boxes, fruits put in hand-woven baskets,

to name just

a few

There are many factors

account

ing

for

this issue, among which the following two are most

critical

For

one

thing,

a

considerable

number

of

manufacturers

wrap

their

products

with

unnecessary

but

appealing

materials,

aim

ing

at

attracting

customers?

attention,

arousing

their

curiosity, stimulating their purchasing desire, and thus gaining more profits. For another,

quite a

number

of

consumers

mistakenly

maintain

that

the

more

delicate

the

package,

the

better

the

quality. Such idea encourages excessive packaging.

In my point of view, excessive packaging has

disastrous consequence

s, including the loss of

precious

resource

s, the waste of energy, and unnecessary extraction of scarce land for landfills. To

solve

the

problem,

laws

and

regulations

must

be

set

up

to

restrict

excessive

packaging.

In

addition, we must

get rid of

wrong consumption concept and

advocate

packaging recycling.
