Part-time jobs for 15 and 16 years olds
Waiter / Waitress
A job as a waiter or waitress is a good choice for 16-year-olds. Not only can one earn $$9-$$12

). Most people that visit a restaurant don’t just have
good food. They come here to relax and have a good time. Besides serving food quickly, a
young waiter who talks to them politely with a smile on his face will make the diners enjoy
their time at the restaurant.

Work in a library
If one is fond of books, working in a library is another suitable choice. Besides the pay is good,
it offers a lot of free time when students can actually sit down and finish their homework. So
on returning home, they would have time to hang around with friends or just relax. So working
in a library is an excellent part-time job for teens, especially for school students.

Internet jobs
There are many ways of making money through online jobs like clicking on advertisements,
visiting sites and signing up with them. However, such online jobs don’t pay well. A better
Internet job for teens is to complete online surveys. These are quite simple surveys that usually
ask one about his/ her opinions and ideas. Many companies use these ideas to make products
designed for teenagers.

A young boy recently received an unexpected message in the mail from his father
Joseph, who died two years ago.
Rowan’s dad was a hard
-working man who wanted to give his son the best life he could. It
was why Rowan’s mother, Julie Van Stone, said Joseph joined the Navy and went to MIT to get

While at school in Boston, he would often write to Rowan. Even when he left school and

postcards were sent in 2007. “I remember him saying he had sent 5 or 6, but
Rowan had only

Those postcards and pictures are priceless memories for Van Stone and her son, especially

But, on Saturday, just days before the two-
year anniversary of Joseph’s death, a postcard
arrived in the mail. It arrived on March 11, 2015. The message read: “Hello from Pennsylvania.
I love you, and I miss you so much. See you soon. Lo
ve, Daddy.”

Neither he nor his mother knows how it happened, and they may never know. But they
have their own ideas. “I feel like that was the final goodbye that he didn’t get to say,” V

Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. Friendship usually develops
during childhood. New friends are made when you progress through school. Those friends that
you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity(

) and sense of responsibility (
责任
). A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person
by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports,
most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your
friends do the same.
Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really
friends. They are superficial (
表面的
) only “ friends” on the outside, not the inside where it
counts. Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends
are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so-
called “friends”
if you are rich.
By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the
“phoney”.

True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not easy to find, so you can consider
yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever
necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can
talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each
other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence.

D

What you value above anything is the friendship developing during childhood.

the underlined phrase “
so -
called ‘friends’”in paragraph 2 probably mean?

you are interviewing for.
If at some point you decide the interview is not going well, do not let your discouragement
show. You have nothing to lose by continuing a show of confidence, and you may have much to
gain. It may be real, or it may be a test to see how you react to adverse conditions.
Some interviesers may bring up salary early in the interview. At this time, you may
indicate that you are more interested in a job where you can prove yourself that a specific salary.
This politely passes the question back to the interviewer. If possble, you should negotiate for
salary after you have been offered a job and have completed the paperwork.
