一、高中英语阅读理解
1.阅读理解

Researchers in Australia have discovered an effective new method to capture the atmospheric
carbon dioxide that is damaging our planet and transform it into something solid, making it much
easier to store.

Carbon capture isn't new, but previous methods call for the gas to be compressed into liquid
and then injected underground. Widespread usage of that technology has been locked by
economic and environmental concerns due to possible leaks. Instead, in a study published in
Nature Communications, the group details their sustainable and cost-effective plan for
transforming CO
2
into coal.

This new process involves a liquid metal catalyst(催化剂)that is efficient in conducting
electricity. CO
2
gas is dissolved in a container with some liquid. Once electricity charge is
introduced, the CO
2
begins to turn into solid pieces of carbon, which can be collected and stored.

What makes this particularly unique is that the entire process can occur at room temperature.
Previous experiments have only shown a gas to solid conversion at extremely high temperature,
which made it impossible on a large scale. Now, the researchers are hoping that their work will be
used to create even further when it comes to carbon storage.

In an interesting side benefit, the solid carbon also works as an electrode(焊条), which opens
up a world of possibilities.
charge, becoming a super battery, so it could potentially be used as a part in future vehicles,
explains Dr. Dorna Estrafilzadeh, a researcher.
which could also have industrial applications.

(2)What is the special part of the new method?

A. It needs electricity to make the process efficient.

B. It can be done in any kind of container.

C. It doesn't need extreme temperature.

D. It can produce much solid carbon.

(3)What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A. The method will make fossil oil disappear.

B. The method will influence the future industry.

C. The method will make developed countries more powerful.

D. The method will be used to make new vehicles.

(4)What is the best title for the passage?

A. How to change carbon into CO
2

2.阅读理解

Our plan was to drive into Cambridge, catch the 7:34 train to Liverpool Street Station, then to
separate and meet again for lunch. We should have arrived at Liverpool at 9:19, but due to a
typical London fog, the train had to move along so slowly that it was not until 10:30 that it got
there. In spite of our late arrival, Joan, my wife's sister, decided that she would go to see the
Crown Jewels in the Tower of London while we went shopping. It was only after her sister had
disappeared into the fog that my wife realized that we hadn't decided where we should meet for
lunch. Since I had our three tickets for the concert in my pocket, this was indeed a problem.
There seemed to be nothing we could do except taking a taxi to the Tower of London, and try to
find her there. Needless to say, we didn't find her.

It was now one o'clock, and the concert began at 2:30. she will think of waiting
outside the concert hall,
traffic had to stop, and the only way to get there was by underground railway. Hand in hand we
felt our way along the road to where we thought the nearest station should be. An hour later we
were still trying to find it. Just as I was about to lose my temper completely when we met a blind
man tapping his way confidently through the fog. With his help we found Tower Hill tube station
just fifty yards down the road.

By now it was far too late even to try to get to the concert hall before the performance began
at 2:30, so we decided to return to Cambridge. It took seven long hours instead of the usual two
to make that journey. Nor were we able to get any food and drink on the train. Tired and hungry
we finally reached home at ten, opening the door to the sound of the telephone bell. It was Joan;
she had seen the Crown Jewels, had managed to get another ticket for concert, and had had a
wonderful dinner at a restaurant near the hotel where she decided to stay for the night. Now she
was ringing to discover whether we had had an equally successful day.

(1)Why was Joan separated from her sister and her brother-in-law?

A. they could not see each other because of the fog.

B. Joan had not seen Crown Jewels.

C. They planned to do different things until lunch time.

D. The writer didn't want to go to the concert.

(2)What did the writer plan to do in the afternoon?

A. Go to the concert. B. See the Crown Jewels.

C. Return to Cambridge. D. Go shopping.

(3)The reason why they didn't all meet for lunch was that _______.

A. They lost their way in the fog

B. they forgot to make necessary arrangement

C. they waited at different places and didn't meet each other

D. the couple couldn't find the underground station

(4)It's quite clear that for Joan the trip to London had been ________.

A. spilt by the fog B. quite tiring C. rather disappointing D. very enjoyable

【答案】 (1)C

(2)A

3.阅读理解

It seems we're always being told to get more sleep. Studies suggest spending less time on sleep
can lead to obesity(肥胖) and even cancer. You might even find yourself with a head full of false
memories. But rarely does science explore the dark side of sleeping too much. That's because few
of us in today's busy world have the luck of exploring that option.

In an August 2018 study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association,
researchers researched the sleep patterns of those
lucky after all. In fact, they found people who get more than eight hours of sleep have greater
health risk compared to those who sleep together less than seven hours. What's more, sleep-
aholics- those who manage to get 10 hours a night-stand a 30 percent higher chance of dying
compared to the seven-hour crowd.

The wide-ranging global study involved(涉及) more than three million people who self-
reported on their sleep habits and came to an eye-opening conclusion: If you tend to sleep a lot,
you may want to buy an alarm clock. As with all things in life, sleep is best taken in moderation(适
度).

You may be thinking: What if I only sleep in on Saturday and Sunday, am I still at risk? The
answer is yes, according to a 2019 study published in Current Biology. Researchers discovered
that even if a person sleeps more than seven hours on the weekends but still sleeps less than that
on weeknights, they are at risk of gaining weight and developing sensitivity to insulin, which
controls the level of sugar in blood.

For the study, 36 participants were divided into three groups that each had a different sleep
schedule: nine hours every night, five hours every night, and five hours from Monday to Friday
and sleeping much on weekends. People who get too much sleep tend to feel tired and lack
energy. Also, both sleep- deprived(睡眠不足的) groups consume more food and gain weight.

(1)Why is the harmful effect of sleeping too much seldom studied?

A. Few people have time to sleep too much. B. Lack of sleep causes much more harm.

C. It turns out to be a healthy sleep pattern. D. People's health has nothing to do with it.

(2)What does the underlined words

A. Those leading a relaxing life. B. Those getting too much sleep.

C. Those with less time to sleep. D. Those with no sleep problems.

(3)What can be learned from the 2019 study?

A. Sleeping much is particularly beneficial to hungry people.

B. Many people sleep more on weekends than on weekdays.

C. An alarm clock of high quality is important for good sleep.

D. People who sleep much only on weekends also have health risk.

(4)What is the main idea of the text?

A. It is necessary to save enough time for sleep.

B. Too much sleep can result in gaining weight.

C. Sleeping too much does harm to people's health.

D. People can avoid sleeping much by eating healthily.

with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated (截肢) at the age of four. Although the
amputation caused inconvenience for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of
inspiration for living her best life.

To spread that message. Gallagher has gone to social media, where she shares photos of her
travels across the world, but instead of simply using a geo-tag (地理位置标签), she writes her
location on her artificial leg before taking a picture.

Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal
in Amsterdam relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in
Brussels, taking in the beautiful Parthenon temple in Athens and enjoying a river ride in Budapest,
all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg.

5.阅读理解

Last week, Vodafone started a test of the UK's first full 5G service, available for use by
businesses in Salford. It is part of its plan to trial the technology in seven UK cities. But what can
we expect from the next generation of mobile technology?

One thing we will see in the preparation for the test is lots of tricks with the new tech. Earlier
this year, operators paid almost ? 1.4 billion for the 5G wavelengths, and to compensate for that
cash, they will need to catch the eye of consumers. In September, Vodafone used its bit of the
range to display the UK's first hologram (全息) call. The Manchester City captain Steph Houghton
appeared as a hologram in Newbury. It isn't all holograms, however: 5G will offer faster internet
access, with Ofcom (英国通讯管理局) suggesting that video that takes a minute to download on
4G will be available in just a second.

The wider application is to support connected equipment on the
the internet-enabled fridge that can reorder your milk for you, but the network that will enable
driverless cars and delivery drones (无人机) to communicate with each other.

Prof William Webb has warned that the technology could be a case of the emperor's new
clothes. Much of the speed increase, he claims, could have been achieved by putting more
money in the 4G network, rather than a new technology. Other different voices have suggested
that a focus on rolling out wider rural broadband access and addressing current network
coverage would be more beneficial to the UK as a whole.

Obviously, 5G will also bring a cost to consumers. It requires a handset for both 5G and 4G, and
the first 5G-enabled smart phones are expected in the coming year. With the slow pace of
network rollout so far, it is likely that consumers will end up upgrading to a new 5 G phone well
before 5 G becomes widely available in the next couple of years.

(1)Why does Prof William Webb say
clothes

A. He is in favor of the application of the new technology.

B. 5G will bring a cost to consumers in their daily life.

C. 5G helps people communicate better with each other.

D. He prefers more money to be spent on 4G networks.

(2)The underlined word in the fourth paragraph has the closest meaning
to________.

A. making a speech to B. trying to solve C. managing to decrease D. responding to

(3)The last paragraph indicates that .

A. it'll take several years .to make 5G accessible to the public in the UK

B. 5G service shows huge development potential and a broad market

C. customers are eager to use 5G smart phones instead of 4G ones

D. it's probable that 5G network rollout is speeding up in Britain

(4)What do we know about the text?

A. Vodafone is successful in spreading the 5G service.

B. Steph Houghton appeared as a hologram by 4G.

C. The application of 5G will make life much easier.

D. 5G phones are available in rural areas of the UK.

【答案】 (1)D

(2)B

(3)A

(4)C

【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述的是4G向5G的转 变。5G会给人们带来
更多的好处,使人们的生活更加舒适。

(1)细节理解题。根据第四段中Prof William Webb has warned that the technology could be
a case of the emperor's new clothes. Much of the speed increase, he claims, could have been
achieved by putting more money in the 4G network, rather than a new technology. 可知,Prof
William Webb说“这项技术可能是皇帝新衣的 一个例子”是因为他更愿意把更多的钱花在4G
网络上。故选D。

(2)词义猜测题。根据第四段中Other different voices have suggested that a focus on rolling
out wider rural broadband access and addressing current network coverage would be more
beneficial to the UK as a whole.“其他不同的声音表示,集中精力推广更广泛的农村宽带接
入, 解决目前的网络覆盖问题,将对整个英国更有利。”由此推知划线词的意思是“试图解
决”。故选B。< br>
(3)推理判断题。根据最后一段With the slow pace of network rollout so far, it is likely that
consumers will end up upgrading to a new 5 G phone well before 5 G becomes widely available in
the next couple of years.可知,最后一段指出,让5G在英国向公众开放需要几年的时间。
故选A。

(4)推理判断题。根据第二段中5G will offer faster internet access, with Ofcom (英国通讯管
理局) suggesting that video that takes a minute to download on 4G will be available in just a
second.可知,5G的应用将使生活变得更容易。故选C。

【点评】本题考 点涉及细节理解,词义猜测和推理判断三个题型的考查,是一篇说明类阅

6.阅读理解

Most adults find it hard to recall events from their first few years of life and now scientists have
found exactly when these childhood memories fade(消失).

A new study has found that most three-year-olds can recall a lot of what happened to them
over a year earlier, and these memories persist while they are five and six, but by the time they
are over seven, these memories decline(衰退) rapidly.

Most children by the age of eight or nine can only recall 35% of their experiences from under
the age of three, according to the new findings.

The scientists behind the research say this is because at around this age the way we form
memories begins to change. They say that before the age of seven children do not have a sense
of time and place in their memories. In older children, however, the early events they can recall
tend to be more adult-like in the way they are formed. Children also have a far faster rate of
forgetting than adults. The findings also help to explain why children can often have clear
memories of events but then forget them just a couple of years later.

The youngsters first visited the laboratory at the age of three and discussed six unique events
from their past, such as family outings, trips to the zoo, and the first day of school. The children
then returned for a second session between the ages of five and nine to discuss the same events.
The researchers found that between the ages of five and seven, the amount of memories the
children could recall remained between 63 -72 percent. However, the amount of information
eight-to nine-year-old children could recall dropped to 35 and 36 percent.

(1)What does the new study tell us?

ood memories decline with years.

-year-old kids are the cleverest.

ood memories can fade easily.

adults cannot recall past events.

(2)What does the underlined word

.

.

.

.

(3)What can we learn from Paragraph 4?

cannot have clear memories of past events.

en can think like adults when they get older.

en under 7 years old have different ways of forming memories.

en often forget things because they have no idea of time or place.

(4)In the second session, nine-year-old children _________.

d to discuss the same events

ered all their family outings

recall 72 percent of their past events

remembered a small part of their past events

【答案】 (1)A

(2)B

(3)D
