讲解：

1. 这首歌是Paul Simon在1964年写的，他与 Art Garfunkel所合唱。歌曲透过描写一 种关于大众沈浸在沉默（盲目、压制等象征）之中的梦幻（Vision），来批判社会只知道盲目崇拜物质偶像 （Neon god they made），不知道也不敢正视社会的真实面（例如地下铁与廉价公寓中的穷人 ）。沉默变成了一种声音（so

und of silence）让大众以为一切都还是正常。Paul Simon在美国社会正经历如越战、反种族歧视等社 会动乱的年代写这首歌，应该是希望社会能够突破这些盲目与不合理的压抑，而找到出路。


2. 作者把黑暗形容为自己的老朋友，暗指自己向来孤独，可能是因为想法与社会一般人不同。 Because a vision softly creeping 当中省略了一些东西，应该是a vision that was softly creeping，这样就容易理解了。Softly用的很精确，表明是slowly and quietl y，一个词就代替了两个词。这个creep跟softly也很相配，creep本身就有蹑手蹑脚地爬这个意 思。所以大家在使用副词和动词的时候，要注意互相搭配。



3. 这句话的主干是vision remains with the sound of silence。Remain这个词相当于stay，表示一种持续的状态，用法跟系动词差不多。比如: He still remained silent after we showed him the evidence. 我们给他看了证据后，他还是保持沉默。They remained friends for their life-long time. 他们一辈子都是朋友。



4. 这句话比较长，状语比较多，正常应该是In restless dreams I walk alone on the narrow streets of cobble stone. Restless，从构词法就可以看出，是rest后面加上了less，变成了形容词，表示 “不平静的，不安宁的”， 例如: They spent a restless night in that house. 他们在那栋房子里度过了不安的一夜。the cold and damp表示又冷又湿的天气。



5. stab是指用匕首刺，扎，在这里是 是一种比喻的说法，很形象，这里描写眼睛被划过夜空的霓虹灯的光线所刺射，由于霓虹灯在夜中闪烁，因此被形 容成是碰触寂静的声音（touched the sound of silence）。

撕开，裂开，指用暴力那种，相当于tear，break这里跟前面的stab这个词相呼应， 造个句子：A lightning bolt split the night sky.一道闪电划破夜空。Split这个词还有分开，分享的意思，相当于divide，share。 We split the cake.我们一起分享蛋糕。还要注意split的过去式和过去分词都是spl it。



7. naked light：指的应该是上一段所描述的霓虹灯光 ，没有遮掩因而刺眼的光，常常也指大白天。



8. See someone doing something 看见某人正在做某事，比如歌词中I saw people talking. 还有see someone do something表示看见了某人做某事，这件事已经做完了，比如：I saw them walk hand in hand yesterday.昨天我看见他们手牵着手走路。



e like a cancer grows省略了系动词be和定语从句关系代词，应该是silence is like a cancer that grows. hear my words that I might teach you，take my arms that I might reach you这两句话应该是hear my words so that I might teach you，take my arms so that I might reach you.
