On December 24, 1971, 17-year-old Julia got on a plane with her mother in Lima, Peru, to fly
to another city to meet her father.
Over the Amazon jungle, the rain fell heavily and there was a strong wind. And then lightning
hit the plane at 3000 meters, and it crashed. Julia fell quickly through the air in her seat and hit the
trees hard. For three hours, she was senseless. When she woke up, her right arm was cut, her
shoulder hurt badly and she couldn't see out of one eye. She was alone. But she was alive!
Julia’s father was a biologist and when she was small, he told her how to survive in the

will find people.” The river also gave her clean water to drink. It was very hot, but the river water
kept her cool. Sometimes she had to swim in the river because it was too deep to walk in. There
was fruit on some trees, but she didn't eat it -she knew it was too dangerous. Julia walked for ten

days. Ten days after the crash, she found a small house by the river. There were some woodcutters
in the house. They cleaned her cuts carefully and the next day they carried her down the river and
a plane took her safely back to the city of Pucallpa.
Julia was the only person who survived the plane crash. The other 91 people, including her

Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy
talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around
them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new
name — phubbers
(低头族)
.
Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this
group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury
themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty
woman takes selfie
(自拍照)
in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without
knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the
destruction of the world.
不积跬步无以至千里,不积小流无以成江海!
B. Active and lovely.
D. Caring and careful. C. Smart and creative.
Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is
the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone
could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that
breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will
damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away
from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to
their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange
atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their
death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
28. For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2?
A. To advertise the cartoon made by students.
B. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.
C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.
D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.
29. Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?
A. His social skills could be affected.
B. He will cause the destruction of the world.
C. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.
D. He might get separated from his friends and family.
30. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing?
A. Objective. B. Supportive. C. Optimistic. D. Opposed.
31. What may the passage talk about next?
A. Advice on how to use a cell phone. B. People who are addicted to phubbing.
D. Measures to reduce the risks of C. The possible consequences of phubbing.

famous French cheese called Roquefort, known as the “King of Cheeses”.
Roquefort is made from sheep’s milk in the southern part of the French s
have been making Roquefort for thousands of years, and they follow many rules when making it,
to be sure that it's done in the traditional way. One of the rules is that they must let the sheep live
freely in the mountains.
However, following these rules have become very dangerous. Wolves have moved into the
area and they have killed 62 sheep. The wolves are an endangered species, and have not been seen
in the French mountains since the 1920s. No one is allowed to kill the wolves, but the farmers are
now saying it is impossible for their sheep to live in the same mountains as the wolves. Farmers
have dogs to protect the sheep and have also built electric fences, but they say they will not have
enough money to continue making Roquefort once they have spent it all on keeping their sheep
safe. Many people have said that wolves that attack sheep should be killed, since they have
become a threat to the farmers’ jobs. Others think that anyone who wants the wolves killed is
trying to make them become extinct.
Maybe it would not be a problem if Roquefort became extinct instead, and the wolves were
able to live in the mountains. But then the farmers would not have jobs. Will the people of
Southern France be able to find a way that protects both the wolves and the King of Cheeses?
Let's wait and see.
