These days, a lot of people begin to wonder if it is better to live in the city
than to live in the countryside. According to a survey, some people choose to
live in the city, where they find everything is just at their hand, they can walk
to buy the everyday goods and it is easier for them to take the public transportation.

2

However, others think that living in the city is not perfect at all, they have to fight for standing
room on the bus at the rush hour every day, and endless traffic jams take us lots of time on the
road. Some even can not afford the houses in the city. Because of this, some people come up
with the idea of living in between, that is to say, they can live near the countryside, but not too
far away from the city, and in that case, it usually takes people about an hour or so to go to work
by subway. So they can not only enjoy the convenience of the city life, but also the fresh air and
big houses here in the countryside. To some point, this idea sounds working. It is why there are
plenty of the young people prefer to choose to live in those so-called gray areas. Anyway, just as
an old Chinese old saying goes: “You can’t sell the cow and drink the milk.”
( )29. According to the passage, which of the following is good about living in the city?
A. It is difficult to buy everyday goods.
B. The public transportation is great.
C. The houses are very cheaper.
D. There are more friends there in the city.
( )30. According to the passage, which of the following is bad about living in the city?
A. The prices of the houses are very high.
B. There are fewer traffic jams on the road.
C. The air is much better in the city.
D. The people in the city are friendlier.
( )31. People want to live in the so-called gray areas, because of ___________.
A. the air pollution B. the big houses
C. the traffic jams D. different food
( )32. Who will probably choose to live in the so-called gray areas?
A. The young people B. The children
C. The old people D. The teenager

C
We live in a digital world now, and a student's technology needs have
changed. For the early years, say when you are in primary school, you can
almost get by with no technology at all.
As you get closer to middle school, a computer with Internet
becomes more necessary. Teachers will often give homework that
requires a student to use the Internet for research. After a computer, technology choices for
students become more difficult to make -- especially when it comes to mobile phones. Kids
will beg their parents for a mobile phone, especially in middle school. However, different
people hold different ideas on this technology. For many parents, it's more about safety:
They want to know that their kids can call them as quickly as possible if necessary. For
teachers, mobile phones can be used to record lessons when students are not in class. But
many teachers dislike mobile phones. Some kids send messages or have talks in the class.
Sending messages also raises the problem of cheating on exams. More and more schools do
not allow students to use mobile phones because of it.
Many kids see iPods as necessary things to have. To some point, IPods are great for
music, but do they do anything good for your children's education? Maybe they do. That's
the opinion of Doug Johnson, an educator for 30 years. Johnson says that educators should
accept all new forms of technology in the classroom, including iPods.
their mobile phones than we can do with our computers
be afraid. The truth is that it's easier to change the way we teach than to change the
technology habits of a whole generation.
one way or another, and it is better for us to make the best of it.
