the topic of my speech is the hardness of life

。我们象征着希 望、朝气。所以我们展现在别人面

英气，朝气和活力的现代新青年的形象，一个融入了大自然的精灵

有 人曾说，生命有一种硬度，气节和尊严是撑起生命硬度的骨

骼。

< br>的人是一个没出息的人，而我们作为时代的先锋，要是永远在黑暗

中沉溺呢，还是 要做一个顶天立地的好男儿，一朵绽放在风雨中的

铿锵玫瑰。答案，不言而喻。

大漠再荒凉也有丰碑的矗立，青山 再孤高，也有长城的环绕，

河水再平静，也有蛟龙的横卧。而时代再怎么变，我们的形象 ，我

们的雄风依然如故。因为我们自尊，因为我们自信，因为我们有着

< br>鲜活的生命。而正因如此，河岸才悠悠，大漠才广袤，青山才长青，

生命的硬度才 长存。

what i have lived for

我为何而生

three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have

governed my life: the longing for love, the search of knowledge,

and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. these

passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in

a wayward course, over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to

the very verge of despair.

我的一 生被三种简单却又元比强烈的激情所控制

:

对爱的渴望，

对知识的探索和对人类苦难难以抑制的怜悯。这些激情量像狂风，

把我态情吹向四方，掠 过苦痛的大海，迫使我濒临绝望中的边缘。

i have sought love, first, because it brings ecstasy -

ecstasy so great that i would often have sacrificed all the rest

of my life for a few hours of this joy. i have sought it, next,

because it relieves loneliness -that terrible loneliness in which

one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world

into the cold unfathomable abyss. i have sought it, finally,

because in the union of love i have seen, in a mystic miniature,

the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have

imagined. this is what i sought, and though it might seem too

good for human life, this is what-at last-i have found.

我寻求爱，首先因为它使我心为之着述，这种难以名状的美妙

迷醉使我愿 意用所有的余生去换取哪怕几个小时这样的幸福。我寻

求爱，还因为它能缓解我心理上的 孤独感，我感觉心灵的战采，仿

如站在世界的边缘而面前是冰冷，无底的死亡深渊。我寻 求爱，因

为在我所目睹的结合中，我仿佛看到了圣贤与诗人们所向往的天堂

之景。这就是我所寻找的，虽然对人的一生而言似乎有些遥不可及，

但至少是 我用尽一生所领悟到的。

with equal passion i have sought knowledge. i have

wished to understand the hearts of men. i have wished to know

why the stars shine. and i have tried to apprehend the
